Title: Sooo...new Toonami?
Post by: Unknown Target on March 20, 2003, 06:17:39 pm
I think I'm the only one here who watches this, but they've got some cool shows on it now. For instance, they took the Midnight-Run hit, Yu Yu Hakasho, edited it, and are now airing it. The Naromi Kashusha, or something, is awesome, and is truly fun to watch. My only complaint is that they're showing DBZ and G Gundam still, and Tom (the host) looks ass-ugly.

G Gundam's last episodes weren't as bad as the other ones, although they still weren't really any good... Now thats its started over though, its all Street Fighter again. *puke*

As for Tom, I wish they brought back Moltar :p

Japenese anime ar A-1 Sup4r!

We still get that over here in britain on the UK CNX.  CN also got the rights recently to show the recently produced Blue Gender anime series.  Though fans of DBZ should be aware that it was funimation who got the rights to the english version and convertion of it and many of the voice actors are the same ones used on DBZ (and GT).

But still, for those who haven't seen it I would highly recomment picking up Blue Gender on video or DVD (since CN are only going to edit out some of the best parts in the combat sequences).  It's deep, violent and explores the human condiction under extremes damn well.

Or gundam wing.  Yes, the third (and hopefully final) transformation of TOM is quite ugly, with no thought of any kind to style.  I liked the second form.  Toonami sucks now, they got rid of all the really good shows in favor of the quick buck and in favor of the younger audience, lets hove Naromi Kashusha will usher in a new era of toonami.  I still remember the original Midnight Run, from 11 PM to 4 AM of increasingly older and better shows.

PS: CN should really bring back robotech.

They finally did one thing right..   .hack//sign is one of the best they've got.

Now...if they could only get Vandread.....(the last ep (of the second stage) is the best space battle ever...it could even be recreated using fred...)

oh, yeah, blue gender is a hit, I love this series :) ( don't like the end tho ).
G gundam is amongst the worst of the gundam series it seems, the Z series is the most popular from what I've heard.

Yu YU Hakusho is nice, but the "edited" in UT's sentence... well... censorship, you know... :doubt:

Have you seen Robotech recently? I have, and it's not as good as you remember :D
I really like Yu Yu Hakasho and, I think it's Ruromi Kinshara or something.
The new Absolution looks cool, but the last one had a bit more original design (and hangars!)
DBZ...zzzz.....they've gone for about 20 episodes fighting that one guy (Boo), and it's really starting to get repetitve.
G Gundam is just...wierd. I think they should buy the rights from Harmony Gold, and get Macross imported

Cartoon Network
*sigh*
They'll get a good thing going ... then kill it off for some type of silly crap.

On a different note (channel) I'm really looking forward to Sci Fi's debute of the new Battlestar Galactica Mini-Series ;)

BTW Anyone notice the 80's reborn mess going on lately ? Transformers (Although they never completely died out) He-man, GI Joe, Ninja Turtles,......hell I've even seen freaking CareBears and Strawberry ShortCake toys back out (The sad effect of going to toys-r-us with Girlfriend,..you get drug through the dolls too lol)

But it's like they're bringing back all the old toys thinking parents will remember them and go running out buying them for the kids.

BTW, did anyone notice that back when they showed Gundam Wing on CN, the only difference between the ones during the day and teh ones during Midnight Run were only a few swear words?

I've noticed that recently. Since i started designing my Mecha RPG based off Gundam designs,...my GF wanted to see the shows so we've downloaded the Gundam Wing series and watched about 3-5 a night. We;ve seen replays from CN,Sci Fi, and some channel called Y! ? and it's really very little difference in all of them

(Amazing part is even at full screen it's still nearly full quality yet failr small file sizes. )

It's not that uncommon actually, if you can find the right subject of anime.  And it's only in america and europe really, places like australia and surrounding areas had anime for years and they pretty much grew up with it over there.  But it has been over here (US and europe) for a while (ie before akira) you just had to know where to look.

I live in england but still grew up with robotech and a few other anime series along with the rest of the western animition.  The same is true for a number of people, even the girls ;)

anime in france is not rare or anything, first animes were aired around the 80'. pb is, in france, it's
1) regarded as very childish by many people
2) regarded as only violence and sex by many others
so anime -> bad reputation

as for girls, yeah, they might like stuff like fruit basket or love hina. but that's not the kind of anime you run into on TV chanels or any popular media.

Basically the main version had 5 Robotic Loins that joined together into a big ass robot (Voltron),... alternate version came out later on with several teams of of cars/seacraft/aircraft that formed the big bot as well as each team forming it's own super craft.

It's from about the same era as Robotech and Star Blazers.

well that prettymuch summs it up :)

the series was quite nice but the Voltron itself wasn't that cool IMO :p
Then again, as Warlock said it was made from 5 different parts so it looked a bit "home made" :D

My regret is eariler this year Toys-R-Us had the original Voltron boxed set toy out and I didn't grab one. (Not the plastic POS ones ,... but the original mostly diecast loins)
