I finally got my Radeon 9000 PRO VIVO and decided to put my new pet to the test, so I made this. I hope you like it.

That poor Demon.
It doesn't stand a chance.

Let's put it to a vote- do new graphics card people suck?
[pats trusty old Elsa GLoria. ****, I can remember when it was still top-of-the-line]

:wtf: Stryke, that doesn't make any sence.

Do 'new graphics card' people suck?
IE, do people who have new graphics cards suck?

Oh....so I suppose you guys think this sucks eh?

Yes, specifically ones who rub it in.
And if "new" is too relative for you, make that "newer than my hardware".

You do realise now that everyone will dredge this topic up to prove that you suck the moment you get a new card. You now have 3 choices
1) Stick with your old card till the end of time
2) Get a new card, tell everyone you have it and thereby prove you suck
3) Get a new card and don`t tell anyone about it.
Some how I can`t picture number 3 happening :D

Nice render.

Thanks.

Let's put it this way - my trusty old Voodoo 3 2000 could render something like that. It'll just take longer. Maybe. I dunno.
It's a nice render, but involving your graphics card into it has made it flamebait and skewed the topic.
Let's see... Constructively, I guess I could say that you appear to have lens defect effects on the engines of the fighter, but not on the points where the beams originate. It's not a big problem, but it might be better being consistent and either having rays on all the glows, or having them on none of them.
Otherwise,
EDIT: There appear to be a few jaggies, especially around the demon (not surprising, seeing as it's FS2 texture resolution, so I'm not blaming you). This might be alleviated by a higher level of anti-aliasing.

Agree with that sentiment :)

I just mentioned the graphic card. Didn't say anything too special about it but if this has really screwed the topic, then maybe I should suggest to the admins to delete the thread and forget about the whole thing. :blah:

I didn't say screwed, I said skewed. Slightly wonky, but not very :)
It's mainly the tone, i.e. mentioning VIVO, it sounds like boasting. I'm not saying it is, and I personally have no problem with it; I'm used to people having better components than me, I don't care. Congrats to you on your new purchase, cutting render times is never a bad thing :)

kara: in the extremely unlikely chance that I get a new graphics card (at least, without a new rest of a computer attached to it, and a rather shoddy one at that), I doubt I'll care enough to start dropping manufacturer names. I'm much more likely to flaunt kickass software or if I ever get a third (and fourth and fifth, if all goes to plan and I get a good deal of money, or the junkyard has an unusually nice one) CPU.
And at any rate, by the definition listed above, I'd just be charitably lifting my standards, nyet?:D
Anyway. Render. Demon's way too sharp, just looks like a low-poly game model. Do something to it.

Ah, but that's the clever bit. It is a low-poly game model :p Sure, a little anti-aliasing would help, but what do you expect Razor to do, remodel the whole thing?

Of course it is a low polly. Noone actually who uses these models can make this any better unless he does remodel it. Anyway, if I had Volitions models, that would be a totally different story.
-
You could always hunt down Dark and beg/plead/pay for his high-poly conversions of all the fighters and junk.
-
How long did you render it BTW?

Bah forget it. I am not begging any model magicians for models.
-
I never said a more detailed model. Half the trick isn't adding more, it's making what you have look good. It can be as low-poly as you like; it can be a ****ing cube. It's if it looks like a low-poly model (as opposed to a heavily-armed warship), it's gonna suck. In this case, either blurring it slightly with a DoF filter or setting it up so the shadows aren't so striking would probably go a long way.
Or you could just subdivide the bleeding thing. It's not like that takes technical skill, and all you've really got there is a series of overlapping curved plates, so it'd do quite well. Provided your subdivision engine doesn't suck, so that it actually makes things curvier when subdivided rather than just adding to the polycount and draining resources.

You keep telling yourself that.

90 mins with setting up a scene and adding special effects.

An0n: seeing as it's the half I suck at, I wouldn't need to or my stuff'd be perfect. It's close enough as it is, but...:p
-
Nice render, could do with some model smoothing though. :)
-
Like the beams.:)

I mean how long did the prog render it.

If that were a Valkyrie, that would be bring me back to the good ol' days of Hellfire ;)
