i've been doodling a lot in math class recently, and i've come up with a couple of ship designs that i thought would lok cool, but since i suck at proper modelling, i figured i'd post one or two of them here to see if anyone here wanted to give it a shot :)
red dots are anti-ship beam cannons,
green dots are laser turrets,
yellow dots are anti-fighter beams,
blue dots/lines are torpedo tubes (for that corvette-torpedo mod that was around here, i can't remember what it was called)
red lines are fighter bays
hope you enjoy :)
(edited bad spelling mistake :nervous: )

here's another one:

Well they are very blocky but they do have potential. My biggest problem when modelling is getting a picture of the general shape of the ship. These pics give me that starting point so I might give one a go one day :)
Of course whatever I did work on would only end up looking slightly like the diagram :)
-
You have to make the Halifax asymmetrical. The profile screams for it. It doesn't have to be radically asymmetrical, just enough; like the Orion.
I might give it a shot in Rhino, since I can just draw the lines on the grid and move them along the width axis.
-
Terrwatt, are you (like me) one of those people who can only draw on squared paper? And can only draw in side, front, and top elevations? Technical drawings? if so then you have my whole-hearted support.
I am too much of a perfectionist, everything I draw has to have exact dimensions. Is is teh same with you?
And is that the Halifax in Nova Scotia, or the one in west Yorkshire, not 5 miles from where I live?
-
Terawatt, I've traced your outline in CAD and imported it into Rhino. I'll mess around with a few things and get you a basic model. Do you really truly absolutely have to have it symmetrical? Or can I take a little bit of freedom with the front and top views?
-
yeah, GE, if you want to, go ahead, i was thinking it would look good assymetrical since i started it, but i just never put that stuff into my images becasue it would mean i would have to do both profiles to properly show the differences. ( i'm lazy :) )
and petrarch, it's the one from nova scotia, there's a postcard from there tacked onto the board next to my computer, and i just thought it would be a cool name for a ship. ( it has an "X" in it ;7 :p )
and yes, my preferred style of drawing is technical, but i enjoy doodling as well, and most of my ideas for ships start out as doodles.

X's are cool, I agree, and so are Z's, so words like Zarxingquetleyex are truly incredible.
BUT, the West Yorkshire Halifax is far better, as it is the original one. The Nova Scotia one was probably settled by Yorkshire Folk, which is why I am quite fond of Canada.

Bump!
-
But textures are a bit bland...
-
Well, duh, it's far from done. That's the shape of the LOD1, I'm going to wait for Terawatt's input before proceeding.
-
Looks good. Odd, but good.
-
sweetness, keep going, by all means :D:yes:

I have also made something based on the picture of the Halifax...but I have changed some parts and in the end it was something...well....different. If you like to take a look I can send it to you...or someone who can post a pic here.
PS: Wasn't there a possibility to attach pic in this forum or was it somewhere else?
And when it was here...how does it work...can't find the "attach file" button.

Post a pic. We're always happy to see new ships on this board (especially as there has been rather a lack of late).
-
Hey, I'm going as fast as I can
-
@karajorma
I think I have said that I can't post, because I can't attach a file and I haven't got a place to upload pictures.
-
I'm waiting for imput from Terrawatt as to whether I should continue this, or hand it to someone else to finish. :blah:

Get yourself a tripod, geocities or angelfire account. I know they aren`t very good but they`re free. And for what you want to do that's the right price :D
-
Well got webspace at geocities...but when I try to show the pic here it dosn't work...well I hope this works.
The pic you can see there is so ***** small thats its not worth looking at it. Has someone a tip how I can make it bigger?
Klick here (http://www.geocities.com/gevatterlars/Halifax.html)
Try this....sometimes it works. http://www.geocities.com/gevatterlars/halifax_upload.jpg
I have left these strange things on top and also modified the bridge. Now its no longer the big bad ship as it was planed. But I think it looks good now ^__^
-
Nice  Good job there. Looks pretty cool
-
Well now I need someone to texture it...anyone want to try it?

gevatter: looks cool, i like the geometry, except on the nose, it just looks a bit wierd (i know, that's how it is in my diagram, but i thoguht it looked cool in paint, i couldn't really visualise it in 3d...) but still cool :)
