there was a texture pack arround with some AMAZINGLY good textures for all FS2 ships now iv been looking for it and i cant find it maybe someone could give me a link or sumting?! please!!!:blah:

I suspect you mean GE's pack of High res textures from FS1. IIRC the pack has now been made part of the FS1 port.

And don't forget the registry hacks. Hi-res textures aren't much good without them :)

Anyway... yeah, it would be good to have the hi res maps, but atleast its in the hands of FS 1 port now.

why would u need registry hacks to use the hi-res textures?

Without the registry hack FS2 scales textures back to 256x256, with the registry hack it uses 512x512 textures.
Get TBP R1 high-res textures package, it includes an exe which applies this registy hack.

Here, setreg (http://koti.mbnet.fi/~fury/misc/setreg.rar), which is included in TBP R1 high-res package.

Just to clarify, GE's problem was the result of a misinstallation on his part. FS2_OPEN does indeed support high-res textures.
Speaking of which, I know I've asked this before, but is the high-res texture hack in the launcher?

If set manually with regedit textures can have an even bigger size - in Lucy's case it was 1600*1600:devil:

I went looking through my registry for these texture sizes but I couldnt find em.. Where are they? :confused:

So...let me see if I got this right....
FS1 uses normaly 256x256 - neesd the hack for better textures
FS2 uses normally 256x256 -
FS2 Open uses 512x512
RIGHT?

Actually, with the reghack, FSx uses the maximum size your video card can support. :)

Yet textures have to be power-of-two sizes, meaning that 1600x1600 is an impossible size, unless you're running either professional hardware with a proprietary API, or using a DirectX 9-class piece of hardware (which, as I recall, have to support arbitrary texture sizes)
Edit: OT - Is there any reason that the descriptions of people that are default ones are written in russian for me? I don't think that's right :)

Sorry to bump an old thread (well, its just a couple of weeks old), but I got a few questions on this:
Are the Babylon Project Hi-Res textures the same as GE's hi-res textures? If not, whats the difference? Which do u guys recommend?
Also, would the glow stuff Bobbou or GE did for the Fs2 ships still show up on these new textures?
And lastly, was anyone out there making hi res textures for the rest of the FS2 ships?

1.) No. TBP is a total conversion of FS2. Those hi-res textures are for their Babylon 5 ships. Mine are for the original FS2 ships.
2.) Of course!
3.) Not that I know of... I really wish someone would take the time to detail some of the fighter maps, though.

Thanx GE. Is there a way to d/l the hi res textures and fs1 port other than file planet? I don't like file planet and am a liitle nervous of signing up for things just to d/l. I tried the resources link here but it was dead (the link 2 the textures).
I'd appreciate any suggestions.
