Steel Battalion (http://www.techtv.com/extendedplay/reviews/story/0,24330,3411085,00.html)
What a, well I was going to say game, but it's more like a full simulation. Absolutely incredible, amazing fun, especially when running at 90 MPH, turning too fast, careening over and sliding along the ground completely destroying two tanks that lie on the floor (pretty much all I could do at first). Just, wow.
Only bad points so far are that the draw distance is pretty short at times, though due to the way the combat works you hardly notice it, the display size on the first generation of mechs is quite small, but with a decent sized T.V it's not so bad, by the third generation the display size is huge so it's just a case of playing on really. Visually and aurally it's incredible, so hard to describe walking up a beach, shells fired from a battery exploding all around and machine gun fire peppering the sand around you. Wow.

No kidding, with equipment like this, it's gotta be something serious...
Well, maybe a PC version will come out..? ;)

THE ULTIMATE GAMING MACHINE:

But that game does look good ;)

The NES is pretty good. Anyone up for a game of Duck Hunt?

Thats a slightly different controller to the one it shipped with. The buttons have this really nice L.E.D fade effect once they've been pressed.
I guess a PC version could come out, with it being under Microsoft and all, but it would depend on whether Capcom would make another batch of controllers.
Kinda the reason I bought it was because they're going to make a sequel that can be played online and they plan to make other games that use the controller, so it's not just a one game thing.
But it's more of an experience than a game and everybody should have a go at least a few times just to experience it.
As for Nintendo and the SNES, Super Mario World is quite possibly the most sublime platform game ever, it's a god damn classic.

I've been playing it for ten years, and it's still the cat's meow

I never got around getting a SNES back then, so I'm making it up with my GBA now...
I feel kinda sucky for not beating bowser :(

Best video game of all time. That was just super.
And I'm completely against console games. The reason? Cuz all I have is my computer. :D

This calls for a new thread.

****ing incredible.
I had to cross a bridge, but accidentally shot it (I had a target lock and the enemy VT moved behind one of the bridges supporting beams) the bridge collapsed on me and I dropped into the water, which then started to squirt into the cockpit as I flipped up the plastic cover for the eject button and ejected. Good job too, if you're KIA you lose all of your progress in the game and have to completely restart.
A vertical learning curve, but one of the most satisfying experiences ever.

ahhhh, the joys of usb :)

Hehe, old games rock. I still have a SNES and a Sega Genesis (sitting alongside the PS2, N64 and Gamecube) both of which I play. I plan to get a Saturn and Dreamcast sometime soon.
And I reeeeaaaally want that steel battalion controller on my computer, even more buttons than my Saitek :D I'd buy that game if it was PS2/Gamecube/PC.... imo, it was a terrible decision to make it for the xbox (if it's xbox only that is)

I dunno. Would be too big. Too bad there aren't any VR goggled that can let you have 360 degree sight. :D That would rock.
By the way, are the controls with forcefeedback? And what are the framerates like?
And I'm seriously considering in buying an x-box IF this game comes bundled with it. Which I think might be a possibility. But first, I'll hope and pray it comes for the PC. So I can use my 3d glasses that I got for a prezzie. :D
-
WHY DID IT HAVE TO BE FOR THE X-BOX???!!!

I think it's a worldwide sellout and you can only get it on E-bay with a going rate of about $300, I paid £130, pre-ordered it like two months ago. :)
You only have a 180 degree field of vision, you view everything on a T.v screen so it's not like mechwarrior where you twist the torso, you rotate the camera and the guns but have to steer the direction of the VT independently of that.
Sadly no forcefeedback but if you have a decent stereo you don't miss it because the sound adds to the immersiveness. Frame rates are pretty good, a constant 60 that drops to 30 if there's a LOT (an absolute ****load) of stuff on screen. The main problem is the draw distance, but like I said, the way you engage means that you hardly notice it.
I love the design too, none of this fancy gundam style zipping about, these are heavy military machines and look and sound like them.
-
looks nice, but I'm not in those complicated games anymore...
I wanna try that (http://www.xbox.com/mechassault/default.htm?cs_catalog=cat%2dus) instead. arcadish, but you can play a quick game if you want to, no need to spend hours on it.
-
Oh man... I played it at the store on a pritty huge plasma screen! What can I say, but SWEEET! I love the LED lights on the controls and the whole start up. Yes, it really is a sweet game. Though, you're right about draw distance. But also theres too much around the screen, cluttering my field of vision. As well its very... Grainy. Its adds to the realism, but I can't really make out much. So I just blow everything up. :D Really cool though. Tripping over if you move too fast, overheating, so you adjust it with all these little knobs and switches. Its sweet! :D
-
Are there plans to use the hardware for other games? I mean, for the money you're paying you'd hate it to go the way of the Super Scope...

I got mechassault too and it's great for a five minute blast, especially on Xbox Live. It's good fun.

I think I mentioned further up, not sure now though, there are plans for an online playable sequel as well as a few different games that use the controller. Either way i'm not *too* fussed if they don't release anything else because the game is great in and of itself.
Especially through headphones.

I don't have it ( hell, I don't even have an MS-box ), but I wish I did ( the box AND the game :p )

[color=66ff00]Ahh young grasshopper, better late than never!
Zelda: A link to the past is being released for GBA very soon and it's simply fantastic. It's a pity that the games are almost prohibatively expensive. I recommend you download a rom and try it out on an emulator before you buy.

No need in Link to the Past's case.
Best. Game. Ever. And that's including Ocarina and Majora

Hey! What about Super Mario? :)
Or Final Fantsy.

FF doesn't count as a 'game'

$200 for the game--and it comes with the controller?
SWEET. :D
I'm dropping $300 on a joystick and throttle for my PC. $200 is kind of a bargain.
