I never noticed while watching the show, but does the capship really look like a platter?
-
Yep the capships in S:AAB really were pretty flat but I kind of liked that. They were just very utilitarian rather than trying to look pretty with all kinds of bits that did nothing.
Is that a JFK class like the Saratoga DG or was there more than one class of capship?
-
 The ship looks good.
But what is it ?
-
i only saw one episode ever, but i liked it.
*looks at tv guide*
hey, in 1 hour my second ever S:AAB epsiode will start!
even better, the TV channel started the show at the begining, so contact me in a couple of months, and i have seen it all.
-
it was good show

The ship in the picture is the John F. Kennedy-class Space Carrier Vehicle Nuclear. It's not actuly as flat as it looks - there's a wedge-shaped hull underneath, but it's too dark to see
Please note that this model was stolen from the Lancer Reactor, and several maps were tea-leaved from HLPers - Aldo's landing pad, for example. Eventually, I'll get around to asking formal permission to use the stolen stuff.
Lastly, there were other big warships in S:AAB, but they were only seen in the final two-parter. Basically, the production team built models as they need them. The first epsiode was a little odd because the Earth fleet consisted of only carriers. Eventually, we saw battleships and cruisers - I do have meshes for these, but I've to evaluate their suitability for POFfing.

wernt there 2 types of SCVN in SAB? didnt one have two of those big green shooting cannon thingies and no missile launchers?
-
saab was well (this is just my opinnion) a bit n00b
-
No other Sci FI series (bar bab 5) has ever done a decent fleet action and no other sci fi series has ever done a space to ground invasion in detail. Sugar Dirt roxors.
Though i felt there was a lot of pissing about for series padding reasons there were some very very good episodes and if it had gone into a second season it had arc hints that would make babylon 5 nod in aproval.

I Believe the USS Eisenhower had two huge rail guns, one down each side. Can't remember which episode it is in though. Probably one of the last two.

yeah sugar dirt

That sounds to me like an offer to retexture the model. Shall I email you the file?

Oh, yes. We may very well be right. And yes, the Eisenhower bit the bullet in the epsiode 'Sugar Dirt' :(

We've only seen one class of capital ship.

Oh no...we've definately seen at least two. I remember quite clearly there being some cruisers introduced near the end. They had some nasty guns that they were firing at a planet if I remember correctly.
-
Weve seen 4 class of earth capital ship, 2 types of SCVN and 2 destroyer types (all pop up in the last 3 episodes).
-
OK, time for DG to settle the argument:
We've had the SCVN Saratoga, the SCVN Eisenhower which was a carrier with two massive railguns (though fat lot of good they did), a destroyer, and a guided missile patrol boat, probably equivalent to a modern missile frigate.
-
I always got the impression that the eisenhower was a planetary assault carrier a. it had less fighter/anti cap weps and more anti planetary weps. b. it was "Moving into position" probably with an arse load more troops and supplies...... like it was moving in close to disgorge supply stuff that the other carriers couldnt carry or launch.

I remember that the 58th and a bunch of other marines were stranded on a contested planet in Sugar Dirt for three months or so, but I sure as hell don't remember the Eisenhower getting kakked!
Was that in the beginning of the episode?
-
Frankly, you should watch it again and find out :D
To be honest, I don't want to give away the suprise but... well, the Eisenhower picked up a single Chig fighter, while they were buggering about in orbit during the attack. They launched Hammerheads to chase it, which followed it round the back of a moon... and disappeared. The Eisenhower went to see what had happened to them and next we know the Eisenhower was lighting up the sky as bits of it fell to the planet :shaking:
