Is hella fun :D
Anyhow, that's not what this topic is about. First, I'm bugging someone for a texture. Not a texture for a FS2 ship this time, but for an FS2 building. That's right. I figured out how to use gmax with the help of the excellent tutorials that come with it, and using a sketch of a building I found, I modeled it, and here is the result in game:

As you can see, it does need a texture, what is applied currently is a placeholder texture.
Secondly, I want to say that myself and Hades are beginning work on a FS2 -> Generals TC. I want to know the community response on this, and if there is enough people wanting to help, then I'll throw together a webpage, and try to get hosted. I mean, haven't you ever wanted to fight the ground battles of FS2? Anyhow, if you're interested in texturing, contact me somehow, and I'll tell you the ideas that I have for what the texture should look like.

KT Like Idea. KT Very Busy. KT know not how to mod. KT make time in busy schedule to play. Kt Hopes this will turn out better than the Star Craft TC last month.

well, modelers aren't the only things we need.
Generals editing is very similar to FS2 editing. There are models & there are .ini files (very similar to .tbls). The main difference is, there isn't quite so much heirarchy stuff. In generals you make a subobject, name it "turret", and then set up all of its behavior in the .ini files.

yes, as you can see, it does use 3d models, in the .w3d (westwood 3d, not shockwave) format. :p

And also, will this involve cruisers and stuff? Imagine a 1.5 km bloody Orion in the Generals engine!

heh...that would be funny...an orion covering the whole map...
We don't have too much to go on besides some of the :v: concept art. I'm still trying to get the feel for "Terran" style design (as :v: envisioned it).

This would be a nice mod to go hand in hand with something like TVWP, playing out key ground battles and so on.

Well other campaigns could be made with it too to compliment other ones. I already have some things I'd like to do, but I guess for now, just worry about modding it with Freespace stuff. :)

For the moment, I'm not worried too much about campaigns ATM, just putting enough stuff into the game to play a decent skirmish would be nice :D

Cool! I had though about possabilitys of FS2 in Generals but cool! I wanna play (unfortunatly, im doing err... 3 MODs by my self now (generals + 2 x Fs2)

Hmm...as far as beam cannons go, we're doing the T/V war right now, as it seems to be the most major conflict with ground fighting

Every conflit would have had ground fighting (I know for a fact that some was mentioned in a Command Briefing during the Battle of Deneb) - just being pilots, we'd never see it.

Don't write the SC conversion off just yet. It's been decreased in scope (Deep eyes' ideas were a bit much for my limited skills to produce) and now will only be replacing and rebalancing the Terran and Protoss flyers.

Actualy, generals has a *cough* load of .ini files that seem all tto be interlinked to each other, you have to do a lot of table style edititing to get anything to work... its not all 3d stuff, just becasue all you see is 3d - like every other 3d game... it seems:nervous:
