Title: my first real adventure with truespace
Post by: beatspete on March 31, 2003, 10:38:30 am
Well i'm slightly less confused by Truespace these days, and have got as far as getting a fully textured ship into view.  Which is nice.

My first proper render, previous drawings making liberal use of FS2View and the printscreen key.

I suggest you to make the beams brighter. Also, the Deimos's engine glows look wierd. But as you said, it's your first one...neat. ;)

Not bad, beams look like a sprite can though.

I likes very much! :nod::yes:

Add a white core to your beams, though, and don't forget to RTFT.

I looked at how they were done in freespace itself, and tried to copy it.  Didn't really work, clearly.

I agree on the beams. They look... off. And they don't really have a yellow core. Also, make the nebula a bit more interesting. God knows how you c an do that with truespace though.

But it has got the Actium in it, so all is forgiven.:D

Good things first:
Nebula is ok
Great lighting.

Things that can be fixed:
- Just make the beam core white and it'll be perfect.
- Engine glows are facing at the wrong direction. They should face back not right. Again, that is easy to fix. If you used a light just rotate it with 90 degrees to the left.

EDIT: Oh, and clear the Perseuses. They weren't there in that mission remember? ;)

That looks really nice. And give him a break on the Perseuses eh? :) If people were restricted to what was in the mission, renders would be a lot more boring. I noticed that a lot of Setekh's pictures (I went through his entire archive on the weekend :)) have bits that weren't in the original mission, but shake up the variety a fair bit and have special artistic techniques behind them... colour symbolism, for one. But anyway, I'm rambling. :D

...ummm... its a different event, not actually in the campaign? :nervous:

Well i could change it but i'd have to re-draw it all, forgot to save it as a PSP file, ie with layers.
And what do you mean about the engine glows?

Not bad for your first pic.
