Would I be right in that the turrets count towards the 99 subobjects limit, meaning that at top whack I can only have around 90 turrets? :sigh: :(

I'm talking about turrets, where the naming convention only allows 99 of them. I was also sure that there was a limit of 99 subobjects.
What is that big ship you're talking about?

Its a unknown Shivan super juggernaut.Its the best ship of the shivans.
I can now not more say about it but it is include in the THE DAWN OF THE APOCALYPSE mod so in my mod.

I actually don't know if it's possible to name turrets like turret001.
If it is, then one can have more than 99 turrets.
Do the math:
110 subobjects max
- 3 LODs
- 2 debris(or more, or none)
- rotating subs (like radar or solar panel- if any)

= about 105 turrets

Actually the Gargant has:
Main hull
1 lod
3 debris
110 turrets
so that's 115 objects, and that isn't the limit.
The max turrets I've seen so far is 116, that included 16 barrel turrets.
Just remember, the more turrets you have, the less ships you can have in the mission.
Also you can just name the turrets normally turret01-turret99, then go to turret100, you don't have to name them turret001 etc.

What bugs me is the max number of multi-part turrets!

There's a subsystem limit in the missions, the more subsystems and turrets there are on a ship, the more space it takes up.

Okay, so that solves my biggest problem (turreting a 6km battleship when a 1.1km long heavy cruiser has 57 turrets.........do the math) but creates another one! :D

Like I said, the problem is not in a small turret number (alltough I would like to see more), but their weapons.
Remove all terran laser turrets from a destroyer and put flak in their place - a fighter deathtrap.

Can`t you give the turrets more than one firing point? That would create the impression that there were more of them. (I`ve never given a single part turret more than one firing point so I don`t know if that would work).

The FS2 AI never fires more than one firepoint, so that idea is out of the window.
Besides, the gunnery has to be distributed across the hull. The ships that I'm working on have upper gun decks (top surface of the ship) which fighters ALWAYS fly over! When they do they get LOTS of plasma bolts coming at them! :D

Isn't Inferno using the source code with TONS of modifications?
The turret limit was raised as far as I recall...
