Title: drifters or dead ships (the rotating)
Post by: NecroBob on April 01, 2003, 10:03:20 pm
just a thought.
I think I've been through all the SEXPs, but would it at all possible to have a tag or sexp (maybe even the AI-Play-Dead one) make a ship rotate at random? like the asteroids or something... just an idea.  I think it'd make abandoned or dead starships a little more realistic.
(btw, on an off-note, has anyone here besides me read some of the works of David Weber? I don't want to be alone on that one)

EDIT: the reason I ask about david weber is that in his books Crusade and Insurrection, there are some incredible space battles (with beam cannons  ) and some interesting tactics used.
In crusade, the enemy would ram with personnel shuttles and board you and try to take the ship in intraship combat.
In Insurrection, there were MASSIVE orbital fortresses and weapons like the piranha, only fit to take down capships and could do subspace jumps.

probably one of the greatest parts was when there was a battle of ECM.
a huge swarm of fighters went into battle, and suddenly ALL the enemy ships went friendly on their radars.  needless to say they got their butts handed to them. :)
I don't remember which book that was from, crusade, I think.
oh well, I've babbled enough.  I'm going to bed.

Now THAT would be a cool effect in a mission - going out with as many ships as the game can reasonably handle, and then having everything go friendly on your radar (with the "no traitor" flag set of course). You'd have to bomb ships and kill fighters based on their actions - it'd be hectic and pretty damn hard to boot.

Better than that would be a fith colour that appears green on the radar and when selected but appears a different colour in FRED. Set the all teams at war flag and you can have a mission like that.

Colors and war I guess.. drifting in the battle room.. *shurgs*

either way, can we have a plain, old, rotate sexp?

Exits are to the sides and rear.  Personal flamethrowers are located beneath your seat in case of emergency or naughty disposition.  If you run into any Shivans while crawling through the ductwork, it's probably just Carl.  Give him your lunch, back away slowly, and you'll be fine.
