Giant station with a super laser down the spine, fun toy for evil space mutants and the like. Somewhere around 1,700,000 polys, most of them along the focussing tube. Some really old members might remember the original version of this thing...

Aand... this one I'll just link to, because it's big. Very big. I wanted the detail to show up. Shot more or less down the barrel of the laser.
By the way, some of those little side tubes are smallish fighterbays, if that gives a sense of scale. Supposed to be a revamped communications station with an extra Tokamak and a bigger transmitting laser (so that you can transmit through, say, capital ships at several thousand terawatts), pulled along by a couple of tugs I haven't done yet tonight. Most everything here has a function, the hatches actually open (though there's nothing inside), etc., etc.

Ragnarok... Norse?
Gun looks big. Good.

norse mythology for the apocolypse or something wasn't it?
very appropiate for a giant space cannon though.

That station is awesome!

I think some did, and some didn't... or maybe that should be some will, and some wont, as I'm about 90% sure it isn't suupposed to have happened yet.
-
yes yes... they all die. end of the world, kapoof. if i remember it right... after all, it was many years since I had that part of history in school.
-
Was the old name of the first version- this one doesn't really have one yet, but I'm pretty sure it's not that. After all, it'd be a little wierd to cross voodoo (note the veve; it's sorta a tradmark for one leader who happens to be a horse- and not in that sense) and norse stuff in one ship-type-thing.
And yes, the world is destroyed in Ragnarok. It was thematically appropriate for the usage in LB, where it was a sort of outpost against a massive Shivan incursion.

well id translate ragnarok with götterdämmerung
but you dont understand that :)
-
German, Twilight of the Gods.
I speak German. Try again.
Well, sort of speak German.
-
so wahts wrong with tiwlight of the gods ?
-
There has to be something wrong with it? I imagine it'd be slightly unpleasant for anyone going through it, but other than that it's just dandy.
-
almost all of the gods die. thor's sons and a few others live.
-
hmmm....
sort of reminds me of that ship in the Lexx movies...
Foreshadow?
-
hm the umbrella of death it should be called - ido thik that unless you plane one doing alot of aniamtions or stills at extreme close range then you've gone way over the top as far as polys are concerned though would be better to make the over all thing lower poly then make some close up sets for close up shots so you dont need the whole model there taking up render times and stuff
-
Extremely close range, at least for the focussing tube. Actually, I don't have enough detail for my purposes there.
After all, one anim I've got on the waiting list calls for going through one of those vents with the camera.

AHHHH!!!!
RUN!!!!
IT'S THE GIANT UMBRELLA (without the fabric on it) OF DEATH!!!!
AHHHH!!!!
*runs*
*runs back*
It's good! I like!...looks alot like the skeleton of an umbrella though.

That might well be where I got the idea from. Can't remember, but a lot of my **** is freakifications of household items that I have access to but few enough people look at for them to be instantly recognizable.

I know all my Norse mythology from playing Max Payne. Mmmmm, Payne. :D
Hey, what's that detailed texture up there that looks like chalk?
-
It's exactly that.
