.
fred2 modifications:
1. I think it would be simple, but lower the minimum on the stars slider from 500 to 0 (it works, but you have to hand-modify the .fs2 file, and that's just inconvenient)
2. along the same vein, make an option that would eliminate the little dust and stuff that floats around, in the void of intergalactic space, I don't think there's anything like that, but I could be wrong. I'm thinking of a mission where you get thrown out of our galaxy or into another one or something. I'm itching to use this background:

made it in a few minutes with PSP and bryce, completely by hand, only one plug-in used near the beginning to make a nebular gas like thing.
I'm going to skip out on the other ones at the moment as my friends are here and we have to go.

And increase maximum number of stars (with low and high brightness). The space seems to be very void. I have used a background with stars in order to increase star density.

mmm, interesting thought.
I once made a skybox with backgrounds, I rendered the up, down, N, E, S & W pictures with terragen (I've not uesd it in months) and positioned them accordingly, it was over an expansive ocean, it looked perfect :)
(it's probably not that hard to recreate with the right utilities and I have the scales\positions around here somewhere)

It's no good suggesting this - you'll just be told to use backgrounds if you want more stars. Happened to me on many an occasion :blah:
