Title: This made me scared
Post by: Stealth on April 08, 2003, 11:44:50 am
My sister called me this morning, told me to come check out what was behind her clock in her room.

****, I've had something about that big in my room when I was very young, it was on the wall above my head when I woke up... but this one wasn't dead and pined to the wall...
freaked me out, and it's the second element that explains my fear of spiders today :shaking:

Well done, sir. You've made the world a better place. I really hate spiders, and to be honest paintballing's to good for them. Should have set the little ****er on fire :mad2:

You poor suckas...come to Estonia - our largest spiders are not more than 3 or 4 cm long. :p

I have no trouble with spiders, still kill 'em though.:drevil:

I remember once sitting and twirling in my fingers what I believed to be a small piece of straw out of a cushion. It turned out to be the leg of a spider I had smote a few minutes before!

Go to Yugoslavia and you will encounter big black bugs that schew on your skin as though as someone is stabing you with a niddle over and over again on the same wound. :shaking: Fortunately, I wasn't bitten by one of those but I killed them like sh**! :drevil: So far I killed about 157 of them. :drevil:
By the way we call those bugs Clintonke. They appeared for the first time in 1999.

Yup, I'm scared of tiny spiders and ****ing terrified of anything bigger than an inch or so. The one in the pic would probably cause me to have a heart attack, in all seriousness. I have a phobia of dogs as well, having been chased by a large labrador or something when I was about three... the dog thing I am pretty much over, although I don't like 'em much (cats rule). The spider thing, on the other hand, is a phobia which I never want to overcome - I really really hate spiders and never want to like them, ever. Evil bastard devil spawn ****ers. Anything with four times as many legs as me gets shot at, quite frankly.

were you able to dispose of that one or is it still on the wall? and what are those claw things on the front of it?

The main things I encounter in my house are ants, which are easy to kill but come in swarms of hundreds, and sometimes crickets and millipedes. The biggest spider I remember seeing around here was one about 4x3 inches in the basement, but that was nearly ten years ago.

Yeah, I had a house spider about that big. Thin little bugger, but stupidly long legs that wouldn't even fit under a pint glass during capture efforts. When I saw it in a corner of my room I froze solid before creeping to the door and legging it downstairs. Luckily my dear old mum managed to catch it and dump it a long, long way away from the house :)

You know what else I hate? Daddy Long Legs, aka the cranefly. Looks like a spider, but it flys. Little bastards :ick

Unfortunately, it's fast approaching spider season over here. I shall be keeping my Desert Eagle gassed and loaded with a full clip of paintballs near my bed, with a back up of somesort in case there's a spider on the Eagle

I get that problem with the harvest spider things, which have seven one-inch legs and one three-inch leg attached to a tiny body, and the individual legs keep moving even if they are severed from the body. :wtf: Eventually I end up just smashing them with a newspaper or something. :D

oh those things are annoying. They just about always come into your house if you have the lights on inside while it is dark outside and leave the door open for more than a few seconds. Hard to see too, and they always go to the ceiling where you cannot reach them.

What makes me really mad is when these bugs crawl into my lego models, since I cannot smack them easily there without breaking something and have to wait for them to crawl out. :p Some small spiders have also made it into my computer somehow, since the last time I cleaned it out there was a dead spider body in there. :p

Actually, these long legged spiders are nothing. What I'm worried about are bees. They usually get stuck in your hair, even if you don't have any :doubt: :D
Title: This made me scared

Bees are cool. They're furry and they make honey

But then I've never been stung by a bee, so I may be somewhat biased.

chelicerae . all the spiders have that, and scorpions too:
(http://www.entomology.ucr.edu/about/list/solpugid2.jpg) ( btw, that spider is a special case... it has four of them, and is damn mean. it's not very poisonous or anything, but it bites VERY strong and goes after everything that moves. I've seen pics of those hunting down geckos, the thing is freaking huge. )

the thing that freaks me out the most about spiders isn't the eight legs story, it's the damn eight EYES story. thinking they have all those little, black, emotionless eyes that might be looking at you, that ... huh:

Yeah, they may be fast, but if they're small who cares, i just let them be.

Nah, would probably yank the hammer away and beat you with it.

Looks like one of those fruit spiders. Big ****er too. Or a really wierd wolf spider, but I doubt it.

Anyway, personally, the ones that get me are the big fat ****ers- sure, one that's two inches across is one thing, but when that's all spider and not leg it gets really freaky. Anyway, personally I leave 'em alone (out where I live, the insects are nasty and numerous enough that you learn to ****in' respect anything that kills them by the dozen so that you don't have to) unless they get too frisky, and then... well, never met one yet could survive a 2x4 (thrown, possibly, though my aim's bad) or a butane torch.

All this hatred for poor little spiders?

I have no problem with spiders whatsoever. I just let them out if they start crawling around near me (I don`t particularly want anything except my girlfriend climbing on top of me).

To be honest I quite like spiders cause they keep the bane of my existance down. Flies. I bloody hate flies. You're sitting watching TV on a calm night. Not a care in the world and then you hear it. A great big bluebottle flying about making a pain of itself flying into the walls, ceilings, lights.
I`m going to get myself a couple of bolo spiders and leave them to catch the bastards when they fly in.

But that would involve going off-topic. :D

Arachnids are the coolest... there are spiders that live underwater, spiders that build trapdoors and pop out to catch their prey, spiders that can eat birds. Their webs (the big outdoor ones, not cobwebs) are really cool too. There's so much about them that's awesome. :D

Scorpions are even better. The little thingies on their mouths (called pedipalps... isn't that a cool name?) on scorpions are really big with these nasty claws on them, AND they have a poisonous tail! I love those things... they're so evil.

Yeah, I know that one. I reason that it stops my gut filling up with flies, so *meh*

*sings*
There was an old lady who swallowed a fly,
I don't know why she swallowed a fly... perhaps she'll die.

There was an old lady who swallowed a spider,
That wriggled and giggled and tickled inside her...
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly,
I don't know why she swallowed a fly... perhaps she'll die.

There was an old lady who swallowed a bird...
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider,
That wriggled and giggled and tickled inside her...
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly,
I don't know why she swallowed a fly... perhaps she'll die.

There was an old lady who swallowed a cat,
Fancy that, to swallow a cat...
She swallowed the cat to catch the bird,
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider,
That wriggled and giggled and tickled inside her...
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly,
I don't know why she swallowed a fly... perhaps she'll die.

There was an old lady who swallowed a dog...
She swallowed the dog to catch the cat,
She swallowed the cat to catch the bird,
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider,
That wriggled and giggled and tickled inside her...
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly,
I don't know why she swallowed a fly... perhaps she'll die.

There was an old lady who swallowed a horse...
She's dead, of course :)

That's pretty big, though I have seen bigger around here. And keep in mind, just coz that's big, doesn't mean it's dangerous.

The Sydney Funnelweb is the most Venemous spider in the World, and one of the most comon in its own part of the world.

The redback was the most common killer in Australia until an antivenin was developed, and the bite still hurts like all hell.

And my personal favourite...

The White Tailed spider, incredibly small, but capable of causing your skin to start rotting off your bones with a single bite, and incredibly common around homes.

Isn't Australia Fun! :D

Death looked up at the looming shelves of the library.
I WANT TO KNOW ABOUT EVERY POISONOUS ANIMAL IN FOURECKS, he intoned. Instantly, he was buried under a mountain of books. After digging himself free, he tried again.
VERY WELL, he said. I WANT TO KNOW WHICH ANIMALS IN FOURECKS ARE NOT POISONOUS.
Death looked up to see a single sheet of paper fluttering to the floor. He caught it in a bony hand, and read it aloud.
    SOME OF THE SHEEP. AH...

NB. that was quoted from memory, you don't need to prove how much of a fanboi you are by correcting me, thank you :)

I like spiders, I keep them as wild pets, I particularly like the orb weaver spider, a very nice 2-5in (5-12cm) dark black spider with a nice fractal yellow/white paturn along it's abdomin, (very small head so you don't have to worry about the eyes too much), they mostly just sit in there webs (wich can get as much as 3 feet (a meter) acros) in the middle of a few white stripes that it has weved into it and wait for some small flying thing to fly into it, I've heard they have a rather potent (though non-leithal) venom, luckily I havn't been biten.
when ever i find one of these guys I try and feed them bees and crikets and just about any fleshy bug I can find that has enough surface aria to get stuck to the web (the strands are rather far spred out, the web is designed to catch butterflys and moths mostly)
about the only thing I wouldn't feed to these guys would be a dragon fly wich is the coolest animal I can think of
I also like ants, there is a large colony under a brik in my back yard that I feed (sugar, meat, other ants) during the summer, I try to keep them healthy enough so they will survive the winter, the colony has survived for about eight years

Dumb - even if it was just an airgun. Proper respect for weapons is something everyone here learns in the army, which is why the rate of accidental and planned gun deaths/killings is so low (outside of the armed forces and the security situation, obviously).[/size]

i don't know that... i dunno, it's probably at night, cause that'd be the "scariest effect" the guy could've given, but i'm saying, on some of our windows we have covers (storm covers) that go over, and they are pitch black... could be that

I don't know where this thread's gone in the past four pages, but at risk of saying something already mentioned, I'm going to try and haul the thing back on-topic... if such a thing is possible on an off-topic thread. :p

That looks like a huntsman spider to me - not dangerous at all, very mild. They eat other insects (flies, mostly).

Anyway, I'll let the spider thread continue being a gun thread now :D

its bad luck to kill spiders....and they're pretty sweet little things, imo.

I remember when i used to go on holiday to france and i'd let the little buggers nip me...it was quite funny, they couldn't puncture my skin though.
