Title: Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri
Post by: Pegasus V on April 10, 2003, 01:57:41 am
Does anyone here play Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri[/b]?

What do you think?

What faction do you usually play?

Is there any special strategy that you usually use during gameplay?

I only play Civilization III and Civ III Play the world but if you want some tips, strategies and what not I'm sure you'll find this site (http://www.civfanatics.com) useful.

Used to play it a while ago. Always went for the University (Russians), they can research so fast and then get the best weapons far quicker. Go Green in your social model and then capture a Mind Worm army to do your bidding. Annihilate everyone but leave one faction, then go ahead and complete the Ascent to Transcendence. Max points that way :D

Play it? God, I've only just cured myself from addiction, don't start me again... please don't...
I usually play as whatever faction I want to play as. Often the nautilus pirates on the Alien Crossfire pack - I have a thing for water.
As for strategy, it's more of a "keep safe in the sea and wait for everyone else to either kill or weaken each other", then a massive sanitising spree by sea and air, often with locusts of chiron.

UN, with one strategy:
Take over one continent, terraform it completely, then build up tons of planet busters and get a space elevator.

Usually I annihilate the continent of the next highest tech power (University generally) and send paratroopers to seize the agri centers of the largest in population power and then I nail their capital with good 'ol bustah powah!

Sure the rest of the world hates me, but I'm the UN I did it to prevent *evil dictators* from getting *WMDs*! Plus think of all of those University people I liberated! Let alone the fact by killing the superpowers no one can stand against me :p

ok, get me a load of carbon 60, some plutonium and a perpetual power source and i'll get to work on the elevator and planet busters.

I take it you can handle the rest? :p

ROCK ON.

I play two factions: The Step-Daughters of Gaia (Worm World Domination!) or the Human Hive.

With Deidre and the Step-Daughters, I have only one goal: total domination through the complete and utter master of Planet and its Worms. Early in the game no one can stand up to the might of Mindworms, and as the game goes on, you capture Demon Boil Locusts of Chiron.  By that time, you should have every Secret Project, and should be able to take over as the global president. No one can stand against you. My enemies end up feeding the trees.

As the Hive, I play hard core tech dominance. I get antigrav or the space elevator and put drop pods on shock troopers, some defensive units and colony pods, and I start lobbing bases all over Planet, usually right next to enemy cities. I then proceed to annihilate or subvert everything from within. For home defense, I generally keep a good balance of mindworm variants and heavy defensive units, along with a few heavy drop troops.

I get so caught up when playing--especially as the Hive--that I start imagining the plots and intrigues and stuff that goes on behind the scenes. I always imagine that Chairman Yang isn't out to to conquer the world so much as he's out to absorb it, become one with it and become the guiding imagination behind a vast multi-body organism.  :D

I love that game.

Gaian's rock my world!

Turn the native life to abundant, and you get a free army right away that never becomes obsolete.  Other than them the Cyborgs get great research benifits that let you lap everyone else easily.

HA! You will never be cured!  There is no cure because Sid Meier is the anti-christ and his games the plague that will usher in the apocolypse!:mad2:  If you read your bible carefully you'll see his games prophesized in the old testament.  Repent all ye sinners, for the end is near!

Seriously though, I have given up a far too high percentage of my life to that man's games.

:sigh:
