I've nearly completed my work on the Acolyte fighter for the Homeworld: Cataclysm Mod.
It is slightly larger than a Ulysses, It can mount either dual mass drivers (machine guns) or energy cannons mounted under the cockpit, and a missile launcher on each arm.
It carries only two missiles, but it is extremely fast and manuverable. Think of it as The Bat on steriods. I'll post pictures soon.
-
Blah, I didn't like the Cataclysm ships.
You shoulda made the Interceptor instead. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/evil.gif)

I want to see that scoutwiith the 2 big weapons pods like my raziel (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
-
You mean this?
Its a small ship, so the weapons pods just look big..
Those guns are just for keeping the enemy busy while it gets ready to run away...
-
yes, this one
I don't care, it just looks cool (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
-
It'll be along the same lines as the Pegasus, except without the stealth..
-
can you fly inside the ships?
-
No, Law Enforcer...you fly outside the ships!
-
If you mean fly through, like the Arcadia, yes, some.
If you mean player flyable, most strike craft will be flyable, excluding the Beast ships..
-
I meant fly through them
(i have holes in my ships you can fly through)

That'll be a curved poly, juast triangulate the model, of draw a line to cut the polys into triangles.
-
(http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif) I think he ment Intentional Holes. Put there to be flown through.

Yep
Several of my ships have large hangers some have massive ones - the Angle and the TSC's carrier are examples you can fly right through, it even has launch decks (low poly ones though).
-
You'll be able to fly in most of the hangars for all of the carriers...
The Somtaaw Dreadnought is horseshoe shaped, so you can fly through that part, but its half the size of the Colossus, a Deimos could fly through it....
-
you have a pic of that acolyte heavy figher, btw?
-
The one in my sig...

Good work, Thorn (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
-
yup, the last one looks best (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Yup The last one is best.
That ship reminds me of a myrmidon.
Not that that's a bad thing you understand.
-
You're right..it has a vague resemblance to it, the way the wings stick out an stuff.

Alright, I need a little help, I need someone to show me how to add engine glows with PCS...
-
*kicks thread in the pnats, sending it screaming to the top of the list*
-
engine glows are easy.
I normaly go into modelview 32 and create a fake subsytem(don't save it)
Then I move it and size it to where I'd like the engine glow to be.
then go into PCS. select engines.
Add 1 thruster. in this thruster add 1 glowpoint per engine your ship has.
copy the co-ordinates & size from your fake subsystem in modelview32.
Engine glows tend to look best if they are slightly larger than the flames they are inside.
The glow's normal is the way it is facing.
I normally have them as 0,0,-1 so they face backwards.
Any questions?
-
I cant seem to get it to add a glow point.. I put in the coordinates, normal, the thruster properties, wont work. anything special you have to do before you can?
-
Well, I don't use PCS for engine glows, I still use FSMM2. If you do it with FSMM2, be aware you need to use the proper sequence to prevent crashes.
- Open POF file, save it, when the CHUNK select box pops up, check the FUEL chunk (it will save an empty FUEL chunk).
- Re-Open the POF file, add a thruster glow.
- Save POF
- Repeat steps 2 and 3 until done
Oh, and one silly question for you... do you have thruster subobjects on your model?? (must have them to be able to add engine glows)
-
ummm. you don't have to have thruster objects to add glow points you know.
For instance the Pulsar model I did for a weapon was just the star shaped model and a light in Truespace.
I converted it in PCS and added 6 engine glows
to give it a cool lighting effect. No thruster sub-object there.
PCS
1) click engines tab
2) click 'add thruste' once.
3) click 'add glow' 5 times
you now have a thruster with 5 glow points.
thruster properties should automaticaly read
'$engine_subsystem=$engine01'
remember to save when your done.
this is with PCS version 0.98.4r

:O Nope, didn't know that...

Thankyou, both of you (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
Now I can finish this damn Acolyte

Sweet, too bad u can't make the wing retract like in the game (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/frown.gif)
Look forward to blasting shivans with it (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
