Title: Files required by FS2_Open
Post by: Amon_Re on April 11, 2003, 08:31:34 am
Hey peeps,

Since the FAQ on the main page isn't up yet (why is that anyway? You all like stupid questions? ^_^) i'm posting this....

What is required to actually get fs2_open to run?

The exe & the VP? Or also a full install of FS2 retail?

The reason why i'm asking is simple, fs2_open 3.5.1 & 3.5.3 both go boom boom on my system :)

Cheers,
Amon_Re

Ok... So fs2_open going boom boom has nothing to do with my install i guess....

Where do i throw my debug output? :)

i'm not sure if it's been fixed yet, but you might need the warp.pof. not sure though. and you can post your debug right here.

Both of those are debug versions and I think you need an extra .dll or two for those.  Couldn't tell you which ones those are, but I'm sure someone here can.

Seems something todo with my DX setup if you ask me....

"DBUGFILE Active: ochal 04/10/03 18:10:46
OS: Windows 2000 Release, C:\Program Files\fs2\FS2\fs2_open_3_5_3_unofficial.exe
[2d.cpp,1033] About to init 102
[GrD3D.cpp,2645] gr_d3d_init start
[GrD3D.cpp,2764] Mode: 640 x 480 x 16 bit
[GrD3D.cpp,2774] Failed to create hardware vertex processing device, trying software
[GrD3D.cpp,2794] D3D_32bit 0, bits_per_pixel 16
[GrD3D.cpp,2391] Using: D3DFMT_A4R4G4B4
[GrD3D.cpp,2382] Using: D3DFMT_A1R5G5B5

[GrD3D.cpp,2872] D3d_rendition_uvs: 0
[GrD3D.cpp,2901] gr_d3d_init end"

What happens is the following (This is with 3.5.3):
- I doubleclick the icon
- Then i can select my card, resolution & antialiasing
- Splashscreen comes up, Freespace dies
- Switching to another app renders the display back to white, no output, taskmanager calls it dead

Let me know if there's more stuff i can try :)

Try using the older 3.51 version; I have found that to be a bit more stable than 3.53, which is still in its testing stages.

I get simular result with 3.51, except that i don't get a debug file, prolly a startup parameter?

If i didn't know any better i'd think it hates my computer :(
Just noticed FS1 doesn't work neighter, but the original FS2 still works

Actually (and I should just give up on this) it's useful if you post bugs in our bugtracker.

Link in sig.

I had the same problem when I used Launcher with it.

I have deleted all new items with DX8 at the beginning in registry..
Now it works but i'm not sure if it uses DX8 or old DX5 api.

The bug report has been filed, hope you guys can figure it out :)

If i'm needed, i'm available through email, it's a shame because i really like this game, and if the fs2_open effort manages to continue this great game i'd be more then happy ;)

It's only a shame if we stop working.

Welcome to software development ;)

Thanks for the bug :)

Small question, could my problem be caused by a corrupt registry key? Do i need to edit some keys to get this to work?

Cheers,

Never mind my last question, the fs2_open exe bobbou (hope i spelled that right) does work on my system, although it crashes, and all the text is iliggable, but hey, it's a start :)

It did crap out on me in the middle of a game, graphics looked good, no corruption during the actual flying, just with the dialogue's & briefing

I'll see what i can come up with :)

I'll have to look at your bug report, but, try the command line option -GF4FIX

Didn't help :(

Anyway, 3.5.1 does work now (not with that parameter, but after reinstalling FS2), so i suppose it's the DX8 stuff that's giving me problems.

I'll see if there are newer drivers for my card, and install those aswell

Cheers,

Take it one step at a time, and try the 3.5 exe as well if you haven't, see if we can track it down.

Don't use the RT launcher, it might be creating conflicts in your registry.

Install fs2, run it, get all the config stuff set, then use 3.5, then use 3.5.3.

See what that gets you.
