Subject says it all. I'm kind of toying with maybe creating a campaign, and in the first mission I want a group of bombers to fire on an enemy installation, but the station surrenders, and so the player has to detonate the bombs before they hit. I know it can be done easily enough without changing IFF, but I'd like the player to be able to use the bomb targetting control to target them. I'm not sure if that control works with allied bombs... so, any idea?
-
The 'B' control will not bring them up, but they can be targeted, for example with 'target in reticle'.
Interestingly, if you target an allied bomb you get a bomb's-eye view, and you can watch as its target gets bigger and bigger untill... boom :D
-
You can't shoot down allied bombs, I tried - at least not your own.
-
However, you can ram them. :)
(A Cyclops does nothing to a shielded fighter, BTW.)

if you launch a bomb after you are traitorized, you can terget it with B, so apparently you can only target bombs with B if they are not the IFF equal to that of the player. so if you made an event that changed the Iff of all the ships, so you became hostile, and the installation became friendly, everything would appear the same, but the bombs wouldn't change.
-
You also could flash the bombers hostile before they fire, then back to friendly. An observant player would notice this, but he'd also notice any other major IFF change.

But it leaves no trace if you change EVERY ship (baning support) because any ship with the same IFF as the player showes as green, and all others(ecxept unknown) would change to the "friendly" tag, but would appear hostile.

Simple and effective. The river horse speaks wisdom.

are you calling me a river horse?

mmh, if I was playing a mission, and suddenly saw all the green blips around me turn to red, I'd sure freak out I guess :p.

Even as a traitor (or with another method of IFF change), you can't shoot down your own bombs, I've tried these things.

Not if you change A1 at the same time...
