Whenever I try to play multiplayer online with AA: Operations I am stuck in spectator mode and nothing happens from my point of view. Does anyone have a clue on how to join the game as a squad member?
-
what kind of game is that i've never heard of it.
-
Never mind i found out.:o
-
I don't follow you. Normally when you join up you'll be spectating until the next round of play. Are you hanging around long enough or what?
-
I'll say you need help. Take the CD out of your drive and kill it! Smash it with a hammer and put it in the oven! Before it brainwashes you and they find and "recruit" you!
Oh, don't use the microwave. Or the stove or garbage disposal. Definitely not the garbage disposal.
Oh, and you'll have to go on a long trip. Go down to the nearest subway station, get on, and say the words "Underground Railroad" to the operator. She's one of ours, she'll help you out.
-
and if you downloaded it, rip out your harddrive immeadiatly... and eat it.
-
propaganda games woooo
-
All of you are crazy. Seriously.
-
Eat it? Are you crazy? You'd better believe that that thing's been telling the motherboard to start fabbing doom virus samples from the ambient dust since day one.

i also play AA, and the propaganda is so clear it's incredible that poeple fall for it. i mean the enemy mostly wear arabic clothes and turbans, the radios play arabic music, and that kind of stuff. kinda pathethic really, but it's fun to play if you don't look at that kinda stuff.

I thought Counter-Strike was more fun though.
-
mmm, never played counter strike, is it free by default or do i have to make it free?
what are the system specs BTW? i have to run AA on 640x480 with minumum decals and stuff, otherwise my Riva TNT2 16mb and 192MB SD-RAM won't keep up the framerate above 2FPS

Ain't played for a while but I think it's still free, though it's an addon for halflife so you need that. Umm, if half-life runs ok on that (it should) counter strike will run fine.
-
well cs runs off Half Life, so if your system can run that, it should run counter-strike
-
i don't have half life, and i'm too lazy to get it "free" and to cheap to get it legal, so i'll just stick with AA, wich is free and legal at the same time.
-
Ah, finally another AA:O player!
That spectate bug is what happens when there are more people in a server than the map allows. There aren't enough spawn points, so they're stuck in observer mode.
-
P.S. don't start on the propaganda angle, either. AA:O is a good game, either way, it's free, and it trumps CS in realism, community, support, and it has less cheaters.
-
f I remember correctly, HL has some kind of copy-protection thing on it.

You need a CD-Key for online play.
-
well, long live free AA then.
-
Hmm, an interactive recruiting poster, very interesting.
This is my main problem with the world, people who will play this, and be taken in. There are people at school who are now wanting to join the services, just so they can go to the middle east and kill! It is enough to make me sick.
-
well, i don't see it as a recruitment poster, i knbow it his, but i try to ignore it. it's porpaganda at it's best, but i just see it as a nice free online game where i can shoot my friends (or see them kill themselfs with grenades).
-
There are dozens of free online games, and even more multiplayer demos to try! I had days of fun at school playing the AoE demo over the school LAN, without submitting to American imperialist propaganda.
-
I couldn't care less about any propaganda; how good is this as a game?
-
Join me comrads! We will create a simulation for the peaceful workers & pesents of a new Soviet Union! We will bury the capitalist pigs under their own filth and paint the entire internet a wonderful shade of commie red!;7

The Soviet Union was not actually a communist state. Stalin turned it into a Fascist dictatorship, little different from Hitler's Germany. Lenin and Trotsky had the right idea, but Stalin buggered it up.

reasonable, it has bugs, and is a constant beta, but overal it's good.
-
Yea, I know. But what else is there? Cuba? Vietnam? Please.
The PRC is kinda good but the make me nervous with thier Billions:drevil: of people.
-
As far as games go, there are better, there are worse. If you're into Command and Conquer, it might appeal to you, but it has little to yield in terms of actual strategy. It's another one of those games that's more properly a shooter at heart, only instead of one tough guy blowing lots of **** up there's lots of little guys blowing lots more **** up. It's a bit better than most of the pop RTSes (basically, Westwood and Blizzard's stuff), but on the real strat gaming boards we had hours of fun ragging on how crap it was.
-
Okay... I was actually hoping for some help before stryke turned it political. How long does a round usually last?
-
Political?
-
:wtf:
-
A single round of AA will have a 10 minute time limit most of the time, but as in a lot of games, expect it to be too short for you:D
As for the people complaining about it being propaganda, I say "So What?" A free game is a free game, and a game that gets this much attention to by the DEVs is one that I'll keep playing. Remember, don't blame the Army, blame the Government if you absolutely have to blame at all.
-
Oh, God, Stryke, you guys sound just like the media when it was going on about how bad FPS's were for kids, and would make them go on rampages!
I ask you: When you feel this game, then die 100 times, then get 2 kills, do you feel absolutely compelled to go out and join the army? If you do, you should get away from your PC more.
EDIT: Anyways, the game is very good, and inspires lots of teamwork when on a good server with good ppl on it.
-
before war with iraq sadam was trying to make iraq's army:blah:
-
Geez, you people are sad. Did I say anything about propoganda? Did I say anything about using games as a marketing medium? No. I made a conspiracy-theory joke, that tangentially involved the government. Hence, logic dictates I must be trying to tell people that the game is going to brainwash you- yeah, that's right. That's not at all just being desperate to find an "issue" to pick a fight over.
Get a bleeding life.
-
Stryke, mabye that's because you never make jokes, and the one's you do make are so out of place and filled with sarcasm and irony, they never get percieved as jokes.

This is not a joke.
...
I don't know what to say to that, UT. That's pretty hard to top. What say we lay off the X-Files and Deus Ex for a bit?
-
:wtf:
what's that supposed to mean?
-
He seems to be suggesting you're a wannabe conspiracy theorist. I'm too tired to work out why he's saying this.

Lenin and Trotsky's Army!
Down with the military propiganda! ;)
