Hi all,
I finally decided to make a campaign, but i need alot of background stories & technical info on the ships & al.
My campaign will take place during the Great War, so i'd like to know the chain of events that took place in the Great War, and a timeline if possible.
Also i'd need to know the details on the ships of that era, and in what order they appaired in the game & storyline.
If no-one knows where i can get this, but does happen to have this info for the storyline/timeline of FS2, i should be able to rewrite the story to be more fitting for that era.
I'll shortly set up a website relating to this aswell, so people will be able to see the progress (if any) i make :)
Cheers

Play the original FreeSpace: The Great War! :D
OR....
Download the FS1-->FS2 port.
-
Or visit Eishtmo's Neo-FSURP, especially this (http://www.angelfire.com/games2/fsarchive/project/data/00001.html) page. :drevil:

If you aren't already, I'd suggest doing the campaign in FS2 with the Freespace Port which can be found by clicking the sleek grey avatar under my name.

Thx alot guys!

'Llo ;)
Yet more questions... Does anyone have more info on "Angel Scout Fighter"?
There's a mention of this on Neo-FSURP, and i never heard of it....
Also, is it just me, or does the FS1 conversion lacking the Apollo?
Cheers

The Angel Scout was replaced by the valkyrie almost immediately after the start of FS1 and is never seen in game. There is a mod available and it will probably be making an appearance in terran-vasudan war mod.

Cool, do you know where i can find that mod karajorma? Thx for the info tho :)
Cheers,

Click on Goobers TVWP avatar for a look at the website for TVWP :) If the angel scout has been released they might be able to tell you where to get it.

In the Original Freespace Campaign, Admiral Wolf talks about how the Valkyrie was developed from the old Angel scout. So one would assume that the Valk was just a bigger, badder version of the Angel.
We know only one thing for sure though: It only has two engines, not four like the Valkyrie.
Kudos karajorma. Caught me making another wordy post.
So far as the Port not having the Apollo, it should have it. You may have to extract the SHIPS.TBL file to have it appear though.
I recomend using FS2Open 3.51 and creating a separate folder structure as per the readme. On second thought, the current readme is kind of esoteric and assumes a certain level of knowledge on the part of the reader. The New one they previewed isn't how ever.
Anyway do this:
- Download the newest version of FS2Open from the SCP site (http://freespace.volitionwatch.com/fsscp/index.php) .
- Create a sub-folder inside the freespace2 folder called PORT or FSPORT. The name doesn't really matter it helps if the name represents the contents.
- Copy the folder structure from the DATA folder into the PORT folder you just created, including the DATA folder. Basically you need to have the following directory structure(assuming a default installation) C:\GAMES\FREESPACE2\PORT\DATA\ect
- Delete all the contents of the new directory tree except for the player folder(s)
- Using VPVeiw, extract the contents of the FSport's VP file to the appropriate directory as listed in the location column. I.E.: if the location column says DATA\MAPS, use the "extract to custom folder" command and point it toward the C:\GAMES\FREESPACE2\PORT\DATA\MAPS folder
- Repeat step 4 for all the files in the VP.
- Create a shortcut on the desktop to the latest version of the SCP exe file, which you should have DLed and copied to the C:\games\freespace2 folder.
- Edit the properties of the shortcut and add the command "-mod port". This forces the EXE to look in the PORT folder in addition to the DATA folder, VP files and other locations for game data.
This also works with other mods as well.

Thx alot for this help Liberator, i'll be putting this into a FaQ form later today, tomorrow (and it'll be included in the dox for my campaign if i finish it).
When the mini faq is finished i'll put a link here or maybe the whole article, i'll see what i can do
[EDIT]
I just realised that these probably instructions on installing the FS1 Port to FS2, so i doubt i'll need to make a faq on this bit ;)

Did you find the Angel? If not, I got all the Angel files in a zip here.
Note, these are just the bog standard files. No glow maps etc.
-
Not yet Hudzy, i did send a PM to Goober5000 about it, but i don't think he's seen the PM yet.
I'd love to have the angel too, but i'd need authorisation from it's author to use it, and i have no idea who made it (unless it's in the public domain offcourse, but i'd still like to know who made it)
Cheers,
-
I think Venom made it.

I'm wondering, is there a simular thing for FredOpen to the - mod parameter used by FS2Open?
Cheers,
-
More questions.... sorry guys :)
Currently my freespace folder is ordered like this:
c:\games\freespace
c:\games\freespace\data
c:\games\freespace\fsport
c:\games\freespace\fsport\data
c:\games\freespace\othercampaign
c:\games\freespace\othercampaign\data
...
Now, with the - mod parametre it's easy to tell FS2_Open to use those directories aswell, wich enables me to keep my main datafolder clean.
Now, however, that i'm toying with Fred2Open i was wondering if such a thing can also be done with Fred2Open.
I already tried -mod but that didn't work out... :)
Cheers,
-
Yeah, I don't think the -mod parameter works with FRED2. Ask DTP if he'd be willing to implement it.
-
Anyone know a solution to this?
I edited ships.tbl to add the angel scout to my ships, i can use it, i can fly it, i can shoot it, but i can't see it! ;)
the angel.pof file is referenced in the ships.tbl file, the texturemap is in /data/maps with the name angel.pcx but alas, it doesn't show :(
Any idea's?
[EDIT]
Never mind, i found the problem, the pof referenced to a file angel2.pcx instead of angel.pcx, renamed the bugger :)
Cheers,

Rename your data folders whenever you want to use FRED. That will let you mess around to your hearts content with any mod.
-
that's what i do atm, but it's rather cumbersome, if the -mod option worked all one had to do was create a new alias & then doubleclick it :)
Cheers,
