I've always been curious on what the coders want/plan to do next. There are several threads of what we, as fans of the SCP, would like to see in future versions. But I think we'd all like to see what the SCP coders actually want to do or what they have planned to do in the future. SCP folks can post their ideas and plans, and if they ask, SCP fans can give their input
But please, I wouldn't like to see this thread turn into another "I wanna see X put in, do it now!" from people who aren't part of the SCP. There are other threads out there of what we'd all like to see in the future versions. So if you have an idea, please post on those threads. This is strictly to gain knowledge from the SCP on what they'd all like to see and do (they have their visions of FSSCP too, ya know). Experienced HLPers, please help keeping this thread on track.

umm well,
for now they are going to be bug hunting. they are trying to hunt done and crush several CTD bugs. they are not confirmed but many people have run into them.
-
I guess I should have been more clear and said "besides bug-hunting." That's something any coder would have to do on any project, so I figured it didn't have to be said. I meant in terms of what they'd like to implement or plan to change/modify.
-
I can't really speak for the SCP team here, but I think that the bug fixing is indeed the top priority at the moment; some old features and changes were lost in the recent upgrade to DX8 (version 3.53) and numerous bugs and problems came up, so I think they are trying to get everything fixed up and brought back to where it was before adding in new stuff.
-
There's a difference between "want to do" and "must do". Obviously, bug-hunting is a must - no one "wants" to bug-hunt. :) As far as what we'd like to do...
I want to finish putting in whatever sexps are good for in-engine cutscenes. I doubt anyone will want to invest in a "real" rendered cutscene for the TVWP until after they've played a few missions, so we'll need to do that, and Petrarch of the VBB has done some good work on that.
I'm also obliged to work on the Electronics tag, since I said I would. ;)
Beyond that, I don't know. Most of the features I added I did because the TVWP needed them. I'm looking forward to finishing our first chapter, because it'll include just about every SCP feature save beam stuff. ;7 (Now if only someone would write a program to design models for us... ;))

**EDIT** Thanks, Goober, that's exactly what I was trying to express.
I think everyone here knows how important bug fixing is and re-implementing things that were lost in upgrades. And in asking this question, I wasn't demanding or asking what they were doing or trying to be pushy. SCP can take as long as it wants. They're doing a great job and I think everyone knows they're doing this on their free time and don't have to do anything of this if they don't want to.
When I asked the question, I wasn't asking what they immediately were doing. It was a simple question of trying to understand the SCP guys themselves and what their vision of FS is. We always see tons of people here asking them to add things or change things, but I hardly hear of them saying: "I know what you guys want, but I want to work on X." I guess another way of asking this was what their vision of FS is. The question is pretty simple but let me try to rephrase:
Whenver the SCP gets around to actually thinking of implementing/modifying/upgrading things again, what do the SCP guys want to do?
I think I remember Bobbou saying he wanted to do something with vertex buffers, but I think that's all I can recall off the top of my skull.
-
I want to see alot of work done to make it stable and presentable with the wealth of new features added. And then I want to see them make solid gains in features that are actually useful. Changing every nitpicking little thing isn't really what I want to see happen...people want to be able to tell better stories (and so do I) and I'd like to see stuff like ingame cutscenes (which some really good functional FS2 ideas are being presented), a viable movie codec for rendered cutscenes, and graphical features like specular lighting to make the game look better.

No seriously. I appreciate all the good work you guys on the SCP have done thus far but the game engine is showing it's age. It really needs HT&L. It should be top priority now the DX8 merge is complete. I may get flamed and / or stoned for staying that, but there you go :(
