It wasn't too bad, unfortunately the enemy AI is anemic and they never released the mission creator. If those two things had been otherwise, I'd put SL much closer as a FS-killer in the modding area.

Forget Starlancer, we have Freelancer. :)
-
Perhaps but Starlancer was a very different game to freelancer. Starlancer was a space sim. Freelancer is Quake with nebulae. I did like certain features of Starlancer but I wouldnt put it anywhere close to Freespace. To be honest I couldnt tell you why but FS just had "it" and Starlancer didn't. Maybe I just get sick of orange quickly.

I just HAD to post this. (http://www.weebl.jolt.co.uk/forums/) Sorry.

starlancer= dumb
Freelanceer= ugly ships.
-
Now thats what I call orange. add some psychedelic lime green and puce swirls and it would remind me of some of the backgrounds in Freelancer...heh
Enough with the nebulae already, if there was that much dust in space we wouldnt be able to see as far as the feakin' moon! FS1...now that had tasteful nebulae.

Starlancer wasn't bad at all. I played through and had a good time. Maybe it just because the supply of new space-sims is anemic. Freelancer, on the other hand, was a HUGE let down. I was expecting the second comming of Elite or Privateer, but what I got was a watered down arcade space combat game with really nothing to do, but shoot anything that moves. Hard to believe it took them that long to make.

I quite liked starlancer, but is is a bit repetetive, and needed no skill (dumb-fire).
However, it had nice ships, with decent animations (like the cartridge ejection on the Grendel), and it had people other than Americans in it!
-
Starlancer could have been better, but it could have been a lot worse.
I liked Starlancers' 'hecticness' where you were pretty fast (as fighters should be) and you had to chase this fighter round a capship. Lots of fun!
Plus I'd love to put together the Starlancer and FS capship explosions!
-
StarLancer had some great style to it...I had alot of fun playing it through a few times. Still not on my HD like FS2 does :)
FS2 occupies a permanent 2.5 gbs of space :D

I dunno if I'm even allowed to ask this here but I have a hankering to play Starlancer again now. Does anyone have a no cd crack for it? (tried astalavista etc..nada) I have the game CDs but theres a problem with them. One of the discs is out of balance or something. Every time I put it in the drive it nearly shakes itself apart and makes a horrible noise. I'm worried about it damaging the drive. (For the doubters among you I'm prepared to provide a photo of the discs next to a household object of your choice!)
-
Well as long as you have a legal reason, I think you will be allowed to ask.
However, I don't have an answer.
I would be interested in a photo of the CD next to a jar containing a pickled rabbit foetus, though.:)

And thats the kind of thing youd keep around your house is it? Remind me to say no if you ever ask me over for dinner. :(
