I have found on numersous OFP fan sites, news of OFP 2!
The official site is here (http://www.codemasters.com/flashpoint2/), it doesn't say much, but at least it proves the game's existence.
-
I am gonna watch this closely, and if it's as good as the frist one then i'll proberly buy it:)
-
Only probably?
-
well... propably :D
You never know ;)
Look's like a winner though
-
What, 2? Oh crap, like 1 wasn't big OR hard enough. I hope they manage to stick working radar equipment in this time.
-
I hope it really gets a dynamic campaign...
'another theatre in modern warfare' : what could that be? Vietnam? although there have been a rather large number of games with that setting.
Any guesses?
as OpFlash1 being hard... meh, only if you can't read a map. :p
-
Resistance is very hard, so is Red Hammer.
I have still to complete Resistance without cheating.

Of course its Vietnam. How do i know this?
Well compare this picture on the operation flashpoint 2 site.
http://www.codemasters.com/flashpoint2/uk/operationflashpoint2.php
To this one below of US marines on a combat-recon mission in Vietnam.

May be that's just filler until they get a decent pic?
But you're probably right. There have been a lot of 'Nam mods for OFP, so it's only fair that the developers (and who knows even the publishers) take notice of the game's fans.
If only Interplay could do the same...

Nah...Sony trademarked 'Shock And Awe' within a couple of days of the war starting. Sony America, shockingly enough.....
I hope Op2 isn't set in Vietnam, though - what little I konw of 'Nam suggests it was pretty much a case of shooting at bushes while someone shot at you - not great for a game like Flashpoint IMO. Plus there weren't really any tanks or air support for the Vietcong AFAIK - which would hurt variety. On the other hand, you;d get a Huey..... :) I can only actually think of one game set in 'Nam, though , and I'm not sure if it's out yet. Think it's called Vietcong or something.
NB: Bear in mind - the first game had a picture of a soldier on the box too, but it wasn;t even set in a 'real' war.
-
And unless they overhauled the engine completely, 'nam would not work. Trees and bushes don't look that good in OFP, so I doubt they would make a jungle-based game, as it would just look horrid.

no they didn't. They tried to do it but failed, or rather, backed down.
-
I guess time will prove me right, seeing as everybody refuses to believe its set in Nam.
I actually think the OFP engine does jungle rather good, nothing like a good SEB game.
-
This is really annoying me...
I couldn't get OPFLASH to work on my PC. :( It installed just fine, and ran no problem. Just one thing though - NO PICTURE. I got the sounds and everything - I could even start a game (by accidentally clicking the start button even though I couldn't see it), though I didn't last very long. I tried updating the drivers for my graphics card, etc. I even tried a different copy of the game ( in case it was faulty), but nothing. Not a thing.
AAAAAGHH!
Anyone have any ideas? I really want to play it (Hidden and Dangerous kicked ass), but I can't find any help anywhere. :(

I think the engines going to be overhauled / rewritten for Op2, anways. Especially given the release data and the time before it was announced.

What's your GFX card, and what res/colour depth were you running OFP in?
-
Could anyone actually run Flashpoint: Resistance at full detail levels?
-
I've got all the textures at 2048*2048, but as for the detail slider in the game's own video control panel it's at 6..18, or whatever it is.
I only get slowdown when it's loading an Island, and when there are a lot, and I mean A LOT of units on screen.
-
My comp is as follows:
Athlon 1200
512Mb DDR RAM
GeForce 2 Ti 64Mb DDR RAM
IBM 20Gb 7200rpm HDD
Hercules Muse XL soundcard
DVD drive
I don't know what res/depth it was running in, 'cos I couldn't see it!!! The default ones, I suspect. :)
-
You select your res and colour depth in the launcher, you silly pyro!:)
-
Oh, that's just great. Really. Absolutely wonderful.
GAAAAAAH!!!
Now I have to go and buy the game again, to test this out, 'cos i can't remember what I did!
I think I probably would have done this, but I can't for the life of me think what exactly I DID do.
Bloody hell, Petrarch, you had to go and be all nice and helpful and show me how to sort it all out in one easy step (possibly), didn't you? Now I have to go and buy the game again, deprive myself of hours of boredom, and avoid doing revision, all because you decided to point out my mistake. I'm frankly not impressed, not impressed at all....
:D Note to self: Cut down on the sarcasm. Seriously, thanks Petrarch. I may well have missed this. Funny thing is, I don't recall a launcher at all - I seem to remember it going straight into the game (or the blank screen in my case  ). Is there a separate config program in the start menu or something? Will report back on any progress I make. I'll buy it tomorrow and try it out. :)
-
There are two exes:
OperationFlashpoint.exe
FlashpointPreferences.exe
use the second one.
-
Ah! That'd be it. Now I have to find a copy - Game didn't have any in stock. Thanks for the help!!:)
-
PCWorld usually have large supplies of it, especially the GOTY edition.
EDIT: and BTW, that avatar of your's reminds me of the RTCW logo.
-
It is kinda similar, isn't it?
I'll have to have a look next time I'm in Cardiff. Might be a while, though...
Ta for the help! :)
