I was just thinking about fighter beams and how they differ from normal beams and keyly how damage is applied.
I would like someone who has accsses to both a very very fast computer and a very very slow computer to tell me if
fighter beams seem to kill things faster on the fast computer than on the slow computer,
in fact it would probly be best if you could get them to run side by side shooting at cargo containers. if I am corect in my worry I may have to rework some code that will become a critical bug in any mods that use fighter beams.
as for specs it would be best if you have some old p2 350mhz and a 4mb vidio card and also a 4ghz and a geforce 5, basicly the further apart the specs the better

The only old crap i got are a P-II 233 (At work), a P166MMX & an AMD DuronXP 1.2Ghz
I can try it on the P-II if you like, i think :)

that should be good, the thing is I want to tell if the beam is applying damage like it is suposed to or if it is applying it every frame (should be doing it every 150 ms, not every frame).
so make a mission with a few cargo contaners, blow em up with a fighter beam on both (slow and fast) computers and see if there is any signifigant diference in how fast they get destroyed

i'd like to help, but my old 633 celeron box's vid card is toast...:(
and i'm stuck with an old 2mb virge...:sigh:
i'm currently using it to back up my images every week or so, so it's a kinda limited space to work with (3.2gb)
my athon box however, :drevil: lets just say seeing a perseus shoot Bfreds is rather impressive to say the least

just give the targeting laser 6 points of damage and use the cheat codes,
or actualy... normal beams sort of work now you may not have to edit any tables, just use a weak AAA beam,
and to make a mission,
open fred, place three random cargo containers, save, play
