Title: 158th interface sneaky peek
Post by: Riven on April 20, 2003, 02:00:36 pm
well not really a sneaky peek as this render didnt make it into the interfacebecause of problems when i turn it into 256 colours. i just wanted to pimp the 158th Banshee squadron and get your reaction on the quality of renders for the interface.

Anyway, what do you think?

When you decrise the color to 256 colors then must you go on error diffusion not nearst color.
Then looks the ínterface pic better.

This pic is in 16.7 mio colors

And this in 256 colors

yeah im on diffusion 75 % with "preserve exact colours" on

the problem is the range of colours in the neb cos its using lots up which would be better spent on the ships.

Also FreeTerran, when you put a pic in the FS" interface it always looks crapper than just the pic in IE cos there is not anti anialasing what so ever in FS2. also the resolution drop down doesnt help

thats only 800x600 and also doesnt have the buttons in the corners using up colours, but still yours does seem to be an improvement, what program are you using and what exact settings? perhaps a screenshot of the dialogue would help as your command of english seems limited.

EDIT: acctually sticking dithering on 100% seems to give me that result. i'll stick it in game and see what happens

well like i said in my last post, ive got it sussed now. still looks a bit dodgy in FS but no less than other screens. Anyway i wud never use PSP, cheap crap, and if i did i would use the full thing or the beta 5 of version 8.

Just out of interest can you please add the buttons in the corners of your version of mine, convert it to 256, put it into the FS2 interface folder as one of the screens, load up the game, take a screenshot and post. just out of interest

Whatever you've done there, thats not a good sample of what PSP6 is capable of.  I'd try a few more settings.  Bright is a simple command line program developed by Epic for Unreal.

Thats where you can get it from FilePlanet.  I really should put my copy somewhere else.  Its free to use provided its for non profit (ie. FreeSpace 2 MOD's is cool).

Remember, its command line and it takes a bit of getting used to...but its several steps above PSP6/7 and a step above even Photoshops capabilities.

Converting to 256 colors isn't exactly rocket science guys, the settings are pretty straight forward.
