Post by: kasperl on April 23, 2003, 12:35:13 pm
basicly, me and a friend used to use Roger Wilco to comunicate, but the thing quitted, i tried a lot of programs, but nothing really works, all i want to do is to use my microphone and speakers to communicate instead of keyboard and monitor.

any idea's?

oh, BTW, i'm behind a gateway FYI.

netmeeting, never got it to work.

and anything like direct connections is going to give porblems, becasue i'm behind a gateway, (win ME, ICS), and i can'tdo anything with that gateway, since it's my dad's comp.

BTW: i'll ask again, why did my title change? find it kinda wierd, i mean the russian, i can understand why, but ship names?

I used Teamspeak to talk to Sandwich a while ago, worked quite well. Just search for it on google.

IParty (http://vertigo1-2.freeyellow.com/iparty.zip)

This is an old program that Intel worked on back in '95, gave up on and released it to the public.  You'll have to change your name manually, but it works VERY well.  The zip file includes both the server application and the client.

IParty.exe - client
IPartyD.exe - server

To change your name:

Edit the Client.ipl file (located in IParty/Sessions) and scroll down to the part where it says "< Your Name >" and change it to whatever you want.  The <> aren't necessary, but the "" are.  Then save the file and run IParty.exe.  You can use any text editor to edit the file.  I happen to use notepad since it works the best.

I've used it to communicate with alot of my friends in the past.  Even with some of the peeps here. (Shrike and Darkage are the first names that come to mind, but I'm sure there were others from here that I've talked to.)

To connect to a server using IParty.exe:

Run IParty.exe
Click File, select Open Location.
Enter in IP address and click OK.

Thats it.

To host your own IParty server:

Run IPartyD.exe

Thats it.

Very easy, no?  Just be sure to unblock port 6004 since thats what it uses to communicate back and forth.  You can change this port by editing the Iparty.ini file for the client, and IPartyD.ini for the server.

now, i tried to do this using my oldmodem connection, it didn't work, but when i hosted, it did. now, i can't host since i'm behind a gateway, but the problem is on his side now.

and we already checked changes, mind you, but we didn't find a thing.
we also tried this with both our firewalls down, and it didn't work, but during the 56k connection, our firewalls were up, and down (we tried twice). both times, i could host, but he couldn't

ok, problems, my winzip died on me, so i can't open zip files for now. i won't do anything about it for now, because i don'twant to disturb this machjine any further.

also, how do you set specific ports in ZoneAlarm? i tried the help, random clicking, cursing, yelling, hitting, just about anything, but i can't find the setting.

If your computer is that screwed up I suggest backing up and doing a reinstall. I`m guess RW also went down cause of the same problem that Winzip had. Better take care of it quickly or more and more things will fail.

if you want to help, msn me, and i'll get you the ip's.

www.winrar.com

WinRAR is your friend.  Its shareware, but it doesn't quit after 40 days, and its spyware free. :)

I use either the game voice or MSN MEssenger. MEssenger however is the best of quality for me however since its in real time. Called my friend on the mobile and spoke to him on that and had no time delay between phone message and voice chat.
