Chose the one(s) you use frequently.
-
I open a telnet socket to the HTTP port and type in the commands.
No, really!
-
IE 5 and 6 for me, depends which PC i'm using.
I know my vote does not reflect this, but I was unaware that It was a "tick all that apply" type question.
-
I use IE 6.0 and my OS is Windows XP Pro :D

You voted for which one? I'll just edit the poll and add on whatever you missed.
-
I voted for IE 6.
-
WinXP Pro/Linux/IE 6
-
WinXP/IE6 or Win98/IE5.5
depending on whether I want to play Max Payne or not.
-
Windows XP Pro + SP1, IE6.
Sorted
-
WinXP, Mozilla 1.3 (alt. Black Diamond browser)
I'll give Linux another go, as soon as I can be bothered to d/l the ISOs.

xp sucks.

You need to include Konqueror and whatever the GNOME Browser is, along with Free/Open/Net BSDs. Also, you might want to include Solaris for those of us who work from that platform as well.
-
FYI, reason I'm polling is because I want to see what kind of backwards compatability I should maintain in sites I build. :) Which means that, for all I care, Mozilla 1.x and Netscape 7.x could be the same option.
-
Well I wouldn't think you'd need to worry about compatability looking at the results!
-
Still only 17 votes so far. Besides, you'd be amazed at the things that IE6 renders completely differnetly than IE5.x, not to mention Mozilla or Opera.
-
WinXP pro and IE6.
-
Debian Linux and Win2k (actually there's an XP system in the house, but I don't use it much) Edit: there's a mac in the house too
I use IE 6, Opera 6 and 7, Mozilla and Lynx (if I can't use Mozilla for some reason) on the linux system. (Netscape's on some of the other computers, but I don't use them)
-
Win2K + IE 5.5 (didn't bother updating as 2K has issues with my USB ports and as a result, my ADSL modem)
Win98SE + IE 6.whatever.

-
Avant.
-
DOS, baby!
-
IE6-Windows XP
-
Opera 7.10 under either Windows XP SP1 or Linux.

:wtf:
Eh? Max Payne works fine on XP and 98 - for me, anyway. What problems did you have? If it was what I had, I know a handy little trick...
I have a hideously complex system of computers in my house:
My PC: XP home, not connected to the net.
My dad's PC: XP Home, connected, with IE 6.
My Mum's iMac: OS9.1, IE5 for Mac, connected.
This means I have to download stuff on one of my parents' comps, stick them onto a floppy or CDRW, leg it upstairs, and stick it on my machine to use it. Vice versa for emailing stuff to people: onto a floppy disk or five, back downstairs, onto my dad's pc and do it from there. Four words: PAIN. IN. THE. ARSE. Keeps me fit, though (my room's on the third floor of the house - lots of stairs).
If I can persuade my dad to shell out for broadband, I'll buy a router and get myself connected. Otherwise, I'll be doing a lot more running about...

XP Pro
IE6 SP1
Mozilla 1.3 (soon to be reverting back to 1.2.1. 1.3 is one to avoid folks. Its utter ****.)
-
Win 2k, IE6.x
Plain vanilla.
I stopped using NS after it turned into complete ****.
-
windows, linux
IE 6, opera, mozilla, links, lynx

On Linux, 1.3 wasn't too bad (for Mozilla that is...), it natively supported Xft anti-aliasing (1.2 had to be hacked to achieve the same result IIRC) which makes X's traditionally crappy font-rendering look half-decent. Browsing with it still went at roughly the same speed as a glacier though...

i always wanted to test out a dos browser, what exactly are you using?
i don't like using my mouse (or trackball) much, but i don't know any command line like browser,
-
never mind, misread :p
-
The large text indicates he's joking but given how backward and old-fashioned he is, I wouldn't put the masochism of DOS web browsing past him...
There are two DOS-based browsers that I'm aware of: DosLynx (http://www.fdisk.com/doslynx/), which is a port of the *nix Lynx text browser and Arachne (http://arachne.browser.org/), which is a graphical browser.
Depending on how you access the net though, neither may be very practical. Arachne won't use the Windows TCP/IP stack (at least, not the last time I looked at it) and while it has it's own internal TCP/IP stack and dialler this would be useless if you have a LAN internet connection or a host-based modem (ie: a WinModem). I don't know if DOSLynx is any different.
-
to bad, i use a LAN connection.
does anyone else know any command line likeborwsers, or some thing that i can operate with my keyboard easily (not his tab, tab, tab, tab, tab, tab, tab, enter stuff with IE)
edit: typo

um... it quits in the middle of loading a level. no errors, no nothings it just CTD's.
And Win98 has a nasty sound bug, with all sounds playing a pitch lower than they should.

Lets see....
1. Stylesheet gets completely ****ed up for no reason whatsoever, requiring a cache clearing.
2. When you click on a link, and the site is still loading, it fubars up.
3. It takes FOREVER to load (30 seconds, compared to the 5 seconds 1.2.1 took to load).
4. Doesn't recognize e-mail from an older version of Mozilla. (and yes, I did back it up)
Need I go on?
-
Browser? Who needs a wussy browser?
-
Win98, IE 6, and sometimes Opera on one box and WinXP don't really use a browser 'cuz it doesn't have internet access :( on the other.
-
98SE & Mozilla 1.02, mostly.
-
Meh, never had problems with IE. Why change it when it works fine?
-
windowz for shizzle, my nizzles!

1. Haven't had that.
2. Haven't had that.
3. Didn't time them, but I don't recall 1.21 loading anywhere near 5 seconds - more like the 10-15 it takes 1.3 (on my comp; ie. I can't see a difference)
4. My upgrades have been seamless, emails included.

in my experience, ME out of the box is more stable then 98SE out of the box, but once you start updating, 98SE wins rather quickly.

98 hasn't died on me yet

Hmmm. 'Snot what I had.... I don't have any problems like that. A mate of mine did, but then he just re-installed it and it worked fine... but you've tried that, right? :)
-
never had that prob...
-
Windows 2000 and Opera 7.10. You IE users don't know what you're missing. :)
I honestly don't know how I would manage if I had to use IE, there just are so many things that are essential to efficient browsing... MDI, mouse gestures (I don't recall the last time I had to actually press any buttons), integrated search functions and engines (customizable!), excellent keyboard support, fully customizable interface and controls, allowing the opening of only requested pop-ups, great security, support for custom css style sheets (this enables some very useful tricks...) and it's light and fast too. Those are some of the main reasons for using it. :)
Hmm, should I put up a screenshot, showing how mine looks like... it's a bit different from the almost repulsive default skin... I go for extreme minimalism, and the features of O enable me to go farther than otherwise possible. Ultimate minimalism would of course be the usage of fullscreen mode all the time, but that's too much for normal use. :)

heh, gotta agree with that. In it's final days as a Windows 2000/9x dual boot my system had ME on it. For a 9x system, it wasn't that bad. Until I started browsing network shares that is. I'd browse down a few levels and every time without fail, it'd hang up and carry on forcing me to use the three finger salute and kill the Explorer window (which killed the entire Explorer and all my systray icons at the same time...).
Thinking it had something to do with the Network card driver, I downloaded the latest 98/Me driver from RealTek and proceeded to install it. Each and every time I ran the Update Driver Wizard it'd crash right after feeding it the driver. After several attempts, including one that forced me to reinstall all my network drivers and protocols from scratch, I gave up. I hardly ever used ME and was just about ready to torch both it and Windows 2000 replacing them with a single Windows XP install which I did and never had a problem since.

I have exactly the same problem, if I try to browse the network I have to be damn quick about it cause without fail after five minutes it will completely lock up, funny thing is though, if you leave it it'll give you access to the window for ten seconds then lock up again, it does that intermittently every few minutes. Weird.

I could never get my home network functioning. Went through half a dozen pairs of NICs, formatted and tried every OS, but nothing went. I think I lost half my hair trying to get it working.
-
WinME is the worst pile of code ever to leave Redmond, i mean, even Windows3x was more stable
As for my OSes, i'm using a Win2k station ('cause there's nothing else that runs Fred2, and XP is to bloated for me), a mac laptop, my main workstation is *still* my amiga, and my server runs Linux, and they all sing together :)
Cheers,

what do you mean more stable than windows 3.x? under my years with windows 3.1+ under dos, it never crasched on me.

umm... it was the "even" in your post that got me into that.
but on that account, all of the windows 9x was less stable...

Er... it wasn't that far down the page, you know. Looking at the dates, it seems vote bumps have been keeping the thread afloat.
Anways, the topic says 'what browsers do you use', and I posted a pic of Bowser. See? I did put a disclaimer on it...
