Hey, I was wondering if someone could create a cool effect for me. I was wondering if someone could modify the game so that when you scan a ship or when one ship scans another ship, several extremely fast moving green beams that are very small so they almost look like forcefield when they move across come out of the ship and move around the surface of the ship being scanned? I was thinking that this would be a really cool special effect. I think I have seen a picture of this on a FS2 page somewhere but it wasn't in the game that I know of yet.

I don't think that's possible without the source code

You could use damageless, slassh type thin beams with 100% accuracy and a long lifetime.... I asked Raven to doe something like this a while ago for the Ghost and the Darkness, before it was cancelled.

...and give those beams to a Faustus. Like the ones examining the Knossos. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

That was the idea at the time....for a mission where you had to scan the GTC Tarzus, a Derelict Leviathan that barely escaped the carnage of Capella but got thrown out os subspace earlier.
i think I still have the battle damage skins for the Leviathan lying around, although i've never tested them in the game.

There was the same concept for a tractor beam too.
Talked over alot.
The problem is getting it to work properly without shooting at other targets, and getting a fighter to use it.
