Title: Project Alexandria and GVSc Haroeris
Post by: Starks on May 03, 2003, 10:32:42 pm
I am announcing that I *MAY* create a few missions as part of a mini campaign for FS2. I will call it Project Alexandria, and it will incorporate the GVSc Haroeris. Project Alexandria will focus around a GTVI endeavour to learn more about Shivan communication. It takes place a few months after the loss of Project Etamnanki (ETAK).

I am making some progress with the Haroeris. I got the Setekh up and running on trueSpace. I have a couple of questions though... (I will have a preliminary screenshot of something that looks remotely like a Setekh on drugs up later tonight!)

- Nothing to see here, carry on...

-How long do models normally take to make?

-What is the hardest part of modelling?

*coughs*

Anyhow, you can find older versions (1-3?) of Truespace available for free download, if I'm not mistaken.

Does anyone think this project may have potential?

after you learn how to model and use fred properly, then yes. But with those two and making a good story with good missions (and assuming you have any kind of real life) you're looking at a year.

How much of that year would be devoted to the model?

If you're just starting? And you're doing it on your own? With Truespace?

Three or four months.

Look, I've already started on something that looks roughly like what you want to do. I'll be releasing it for the community, and giving it to the TVWP, so I suggest you just work on learning how to FRED for now. Leave the Haroeris to me; I promise you won't be disappointed. :)

umm.. well learning + practice + making anything worth putting in the game from scratch or even editing an existing model = a good deal of time.

Unless you have a lot of patience and want to learn now, it might be better to take it slower and get someone to help you out with your model.

The best way to do that is to get in bed with a campaign and do some work for them and have somone make a model for you.

And you're going to have to learn to fred if you don't know how already. That'll take just as long as the modeling will. They're probably equal on level of fine art, but are at different ends of the spectrum.

From self experiance, the best way to start up your own story is to not, until you get some friends and skills. I'd start off learning to fred well and/or model and join up with a campaign. If you learn the basics of freding and can make a rudimentary mission, you can learn the rest and become better when you join up with another project.

Wait a minute... Are you saying you are adopting my design ideas to use? I don't care as long I get credit for the idea and name.

Actually, like I said, I've had an idea in my head for a while now to use the Setekh concepts for a Vasudan science cruiser. The folks in TVWP internal can vouch for me there. :) Actually, I brought it up first, if I remember. Your request just got me started. The name is yours, though. I'm adopting it.

Okay, as long I get credit wherever credits are displayed.

If anyone ever needs the name of a Greek/Roman, Egyptian/Nubian, Indian/Aryan deity or person  for a ship or installation. Just ask me.

(I first thought of the GVSC Haroeris on September 2, 2001. I have it written in my personal log for 2001.)

And http://pantheon.org for real mythological names. From what I know of egyptian mythology, Haroeris doesn't exist (unless its some corruption or alternative name of Horus) - it's just egyptian sounding, which is exactly what name mage is deigned to produce.

Haroeris is an avatar of Horus. Haroeris means "Elder Horus."
