Does anyone here regularly clean their system, ie de-dust all their hardware? Anyone got any advice on this?
Apologies to Stunaep if this appears to be spam
-
I don't know... since I have all my comps open all the time, I just pass by them rather quickly with the vacuum. sucks up those big dustballs, at least. You need to be careful with these things, though. it's not hard to damage the components...
oh, a classmate of mine made a small cleaner out of a flashlight and a small fan... USB powered...
-
be sure to get the electro statics out of you and dont use a frizzy plastic thing to clean i found that those sticks u clean ur earwax out are just perfect or "air sprays" wich are mostly filled with flamable gas and freeze everything if you tilt it
-
I just use those cold airspray things once every few months.
Which reminds me, I have not done it in while, so I better do it sometime soon before it starts affecting air circulation. Last time I found a dead spider in there; let's see what is in there this time... :D
-
I dont clean mine often, i've got a few case fans and a big window, i can see if any dust builds up. There's more dust tends to collect on the outside and on the top of the monitor than inside.
-
compressed air also works quite well.
-
Hmm... maybe I could by a spray can of compressed air... good idea
-
Compressed air
Hair blowdrier
-
Dust filter on front of case
-
If those compressed air cans weren't such a massive rip, I'd have a fair old collection of empty cans by now. It's the closest I'm likely to get to a portablke freezeray :D
-
there are special cans for quick freezing.
useful for troubleshooting electronics.
-
Compressed air - good
Deodourant -bad
-
heh, I thought this was about the old BBC game called 'Dust'
I think I'll just turn around and walk away now...
-
I use compressed air cans for cleaning.
-
I don't clean my PC, I've observed it... four years later, it definitively makes more noise, but everything's fine otherwise :nervous:
-
my pc always makes allot of noise, doesnt matter if i clean it or not:)
-
i just had to scan this in (i don't have a digital camera) it's the dust filter off the front of my case(a month after cleaning) :p

just be thankful that i can't show you my old celeron's heatsink and fan;)
-
the thing that makes the most noise on my PC is the fan of the HD rack :blah:
the smallest of all :doubt:
-
ive got two three speed fans and they don't make a lot of noise
they're twin 70mm(i think) fans... there's a third above my cpu area...
actually the noisiest fan in my system is my radeon's when i first start it up, but the noise goes away when the chipset heats up..
-
My cpu fan makes the most noise, then my chipset cooler. And i want a HDD cooler. Because it gets damn hot, i burned my finger tip 3 days ago on the damn thing.
-
lol, I want a cooler for my DVD drive :blah:
the thing makes CDs and DVDs overheat :doubt:
isn't that original?
-
I am going to remove my heating thingy on the wall. Because my PC generates enough heat to make my room a tropical climate. Now all i need is a palm tree.
Last summer my pc shut it self down because it got to heat so i had to let the case open to keep it running. I am surprised that my HD is still working. If it can burn my finger tip it wil proberly burn it self in time.
-
my monitor does most of the heating for me;)
-
I don't clean it, the result being that, on startup, my Radeon makes a cacophonous whirring noise. It all works fine, though.
-
it goes away after the heatsink warms up tho...
-
Same here, it lasts about 20 seconds.
-
it's the sleeve bearings y'see.. they are essentally metal bushes.
-
How silly. They could at least use butter...
-
:p yeah but the smell...:ick
-
But it would taste good.
I can't eat butter without being reminded of Hospital...:shaking:

My AOpen HQ-08 Full Tower has mounting holes for 2 80mm fans right at the top and puts an internal 3.5" drive cage right in front of them. I have to use 85cm round cables to reach it since EPoX rather intelligently put the IDE ports on the 8RDA+ at the bottom of the board (which pisses me right off seeing as they're AUD$29 a pop and I'll need 4 of them to cover my other 3 ATA devices) but 2 80mm fans pushing some 30-odd cfm of air out of the case should keep my WD1200JB fairly cool I'd imagine :D
