Title: Subspace Coding Question
Post by: Starks on May 04, 2003, 01:01:26 pm
Since the Subspace tunnels are object in a vp. Is it possible to enter/exit subspace during the mission and not have a Red Alert loading screen?

Theoretically, yes. You could put the tunnel in as a ship object. However, to traverse the length of the tunnel you would be going well outside the battlefield limits. I think. :nervous:

you mean like a seamless, press alt-j, warp sequence then you're in subspace with\without loading a new map?
dunno, I don't think so, though it would be nifty :D

Bob

btw anybody got any advice on making background nebulas?
I can't seem to get them just right in PSP8 :\

What's the point though? With the SCP you can have a mission start or end without a debrief so just use red alert on a couple of missions and you can have the whole leap into subspace/leap out thing very easily.
The only hassle is the player waiting 10-20 seconds for the next section to load and that's no big problem.

I mean just fly into it, no warp. You enter it through a jump node and emerge from another node at the other end of the level.

Once again. What is the point? What can you do with this that you can't acheive using a red-alert?

what's the point? that would just be damn cool, do you need any more reason? :doubt:
anyway, no, that's not possible, and I bet that'll never be.

to be more precise,
it would be damn cool to have the possibility of switching to different areas (with subspace jumps) in the same mission, a red alert with some movie simulating hyperspace jump while loading the next area, like XWA or tachyon:)

Well you can't play the movie WHILE loading the next part but there is nothing to stop you jumping out - showing a movie and then loading the next section.

Maybe instead we should just ask the SCP for the ability to play a movie while the mission loads instead of before it.
