Title: Contest: Bug Hunters
Post by: Inquisitor on May 05, 2003, 09:11:00 am
Ok folks, here it is, this is for all you non coders out there.

Whoever posts the most non-duplicate bugs to bugzilla in the next 30 days, gets 20 bucks or a game worth 20 bucks (probably off //www.garagegames.com) depending on the legality of cash prizes in your part of the world. and, on the winners preference.

The bug MUST be entered into buzilla and not be a duplicate to count toward your total. It must also be completely filled out, including all appropriuate details about your PC and the circumstances of the bug (how you got it, and if possible, how do we reproduce it.

I know 20 bucks isn't alot, but, you guys DO love Freespace, so, the potential to get paid to do something you love should be a good draw too ;)

Yes, I will accept as a bug report any missing Bobboau functionality from the DX merge. One feature per bug.

Ok, I am sure there are a bucnh of questions, fire away.

Newsies, could you post this?  Stealth, could you post on our site?

Thanks :)

!!

Are you serious? does this include bugs that have been entered there before this announcement?

What version(s) should we be testing? There are two or three exe's floating around at the moment, each having some of the fs2_open features.

Sorry, no, starting today, so no retroactive, unless you make a REALLY good case for it ;)

And latestrelease works for me.

And, I am always serious ;)

cool! :D

I guess I should not include the things that are already known, right? (such as the missing glowmaps and the turret submodels showing through ship hulls)

If it's not on Bugzilla, it's not known.

In other words, anything submitted to Bugzilla that's not already on Bugzilla counts.  Including anything widely known, or even anything that was buggy in the original 1.2.

Well, I couldn't find anything on that stuff in the existing reports after searching for quite some time, so I submitted those in there. If they are duplicates of things already in there, just remove them.

Important FYI: Many times a coder will post an addendum on the Bugzilla bug - you should get an email when this happens, but if you don't*, check back on your bug entry from time to time.  If there's no response to coder queries, the bug may eventually be marked "WORKS FOR ME" and closed without further action being taken.

*That's a bug too; so you may want to post it. ;)

I uploaded some executables for everyone to test out.  some bugs may have been fixed and we're going to need to test them

Release fs2_open and fred2_open (http://www.swooh.com/peon/phreak/fs2_open_r.zip)

Debug fs2_open and fred2_open (http://www.swooh.com/peon/phreak/fs2_open_d.zip)

A hangover bug from 1.2 regarding the HUD and eyepoints has been added by yours truly.  It's a rather unfortunate one for any player ship whose eyepoint is offset from the ship's centrepoint.

Bet you are wondering where the announcement is :)

I made a mistake in the counts, so I have to re-run the query.

Sorry for the delay.

People who entered bugs, go to http://www.garagegames.com and look ta some of the games there, each runs about 20 bucks, I think thta's the easiest way to distribute prizes :)

Unless someone REALLY objects to those.
