Title: Contest: Bug killing, SCP Coders only
Post by: Inquisitor on May 05, 2003, 09:15:29 am
Ok,

We have a Bugzilla bug database (that hopefully will grow, if the community takes up the challenge).

The coder who closes (tjhat means, fix, test, and actually mark the bug as closed in Buzilla) the most bugs in the next 30 days gets 50 bucks, or a copy of Freelancer, depending on the legality of cash priozes in your part of the world and the preference of the winner.

We'll be under a psuedo code freeze.

You have to "buy your way into" new code, so if you have new code you want to commit, you must fix and close an unrelated bug in Bugzilla.

The bug has to exist, cannot be a duplicate, and you can't code one in just to fix it ;)

To commit new code, you must show me the bugzilla ID of that bug, and that it has been closed. I recommend extensive use of the tester list.

Questions?

Part of the impetus of this is to get you guys used to using the tool. I don;t need to approve every bug closure.

If you think you nailed it, good enough for me :) Besides, teh community will scream if it still lives and will either resubmit or, I will reopen it ;)

Though I am kinda partial to the idea of people posting their progress :)

Don't forget your missile trail bug fix.

Here's an interesting example of dedication to bug-removal:
Quote
On January 4, 1986 the "final" bug in Metafont was discovered and removed.  If an error still lurks in the code, Donald E. Knuth promises to pay a finder's fee which doubles every year to the first person who finds it.  Happy hunting.

No bug has been found since. :eek2:

wow -- i wonder how much its worth

Goob: I still haven't tested the missile trails with ABtrails.  I'm not doing phreak.bugs_found++ until then.

isn't C humor great :nervous:

Let's see - from 1986 to 2003 is 17 years, and 2^17 is 131,072... the prizes apparently start at $2.56, so that would make the current value $335,544.32! :eek2: :eek2: :eek2:

there seems to be a strange locking bug that has cropped up, the small amount of looking into it has led me to think it might have something to do with the input controles as I did a break in one of these odd lockups and it spit me out in joy_process() wich runs a seperate thread

also I was wondering if we could get the windowed mode to render faster, from my experience with Aurora this is likely due to the render window and the back buffer not being the same resolution or color depth

Technically the deadline is tomorrow.

I could be convinced to let it go another couple days, till the weekend.

Care to post your totals?

I think Phreak wins. :)

I haven't been able to do much recently due to me being away and then coming back to find my computer out of commission.

We're not going to release 3.6 right away, are we?  I'd like to fix some stuff and straighten out some things first.

No, this was just an initiative to get things cleaned up.

We can do an interim exe, but we're not doing 3.6 as it were, not this week at least.

Time for another meeting, I'll release a final count today hopefully.
