that pretty much describes it.
-
Very cool.
-
Nice. :) Although it would be better if we could see what it is firing at.
-
Its not firing at anything. Haven't you ever seen the GTVA's Lazer Floyd?
A most excellent job.
-
nice, but perhaps the beams should be a bit thicker, they look kinda pencil like now.

Most of them look fine to me but I think the ones coming out of the big hole in the front might want to be widened a little (why make a big hole in the hull for a small weapon?)
-
because that hole is to fit the cannon, not the beam:
-
aha! That explains it then :) But why have such a lovely looking beam cannon and then hide it away from us in the first place :D
-
Some glow at the source of the beams would be good.
As for the model, which is probably what we should be most intrested in... seen it already on warpstorm :p
-
 Nice indeed, though some glow at the start would be nicer ;)
-
Sweet.
Muzzle glows would be good, and possibly make the beam edges slightly ragged. Very nice job, though. :)
-
i dunno about muzzle glows, you guys. i mean, they don't really make any sense. what are they? besides, i'm trying to keep it different from freespace.
-
Well I usually make my beams slightly different from FS2 ones, but well, guess you have to follow the drill anyhow.
By the way, how did you make those beams?
-
A whole bunch of intersecting, gradiated polygons and a cylinder. I couldn't explain it without illustrations.

It's not working.

I like this image in particular... while ZylonBane is right and they're still quite FS-ey, I like especially the job you've done on getting the objects in the environment to be affected by the beamlight.
-
Good job !
What is the model ?
How many polys ?
-
84000+ excluding beams, I think.
-
The second pic is OK, but the beam really needs some more antialiasing.
-
the beams are sweet but the lighting......requires attention :)

Can I make a request? I can? Oh, goody! :p
Get rid of all the ambient lighting - sun, moon, and stars - and the planet. Leave the hull spolights and the beamglows. I wanna see what a difference it makes.
Alternatively, you could make the planet lit almost completely from behind, a crescent, with the sun positioned just barely off-screen. That'll provide some nice lighting angles. Or just have the planet eclipse the sun, with a glowing ring of atmosphere around it, and the ship lit up by the beams and nothing else. ;7

and the planet
I agree. It really looks like it's pasted. No atmosphere, no depth...
