Title: Programming anyone?
Post by: Kain40k on May 08, 2003, 09:54:35 pm
Hey, I'm in highschool taking computer engineering and we're learning how to program in Turing. I have some ideas for things I'd like to do but I don't have a compiler, anyone know where I could pick one up for Turing?

okay, yes Turing is the name of the language. And I've checked google, a lot of dead ends

http://www.holtsoft.com/turing/tech/comp_interp.html

Click. Read. Comprehend. If you have the program, you have the compiler.

Also, it was the first link in the Google search.

I've been there. Perhaps I should mention that I also plan to distribute some of my creations to those around me. I would've that that'd be assumed, but whatever. I'm not all that crazy about hanging out the software I use to write it as well to each and every person. I want to create an .exe to make it all that much more easy for others, okay?

that language connected in some way to alan turing and turing machines? or is it just one of those random ha><0r naming quirks?

We did a huge history of computers at the begining of the semester, but I can't remember all the details. I don't think Alan turing invented the language, but he was definately the idea man behind it. He thought of the idea of the Turing test, which is essentially a way to measure how far computers have progressed.

here's a biography: http://www-gap.dcs.st-and.ac.uk/~history/Mathematicians/Turing.html

Go learn a real language. Like Assembly, COBOL, FORTRAN or mIRC-Script.

:nervous:

I already know a bit of html and C++, and I'm going to learn C++ in more detail later. I'm taking a class next year which is entirely programing in Turing. If only they used C++ I'd be set, but they don't so I gotta get used to Turing for the moment
