Title: More Modelview woes
Post by: Galemp on May 09, 2003, 09:08:37 am
ModelView Beta05 refuses to work on my computer... it crashes on load. Beta 03 works fine, but doesn't have the POF editor. It also doesn't completely load some of the heavier models, like that Shivan carrier or the shielded Lucifer. I've been trying to find Beta 04 somewhere to see if that works, but to no avail.

I'm running Windows XP Pro on a 1.6 Ghz box, with 512 megs of RAM and a GeForce 2. Can anyone help?

Have you tried using the higher limits version that was mentioned on here a few months back?

Do a search for modelview + limits and you should find it. Technically it's still .05 but it may work for you.

It might be a missing dll file somewhere; I had that problem with Campedit but it was fixed after installing the dllpack 2 thing on the DNet website.

Really? That's strange, since earlier versions work fine. Let me see if that DLL pack is still up.

EDIT: No luck... anyone else have this problem? It's frustrating.

that was mainly for trashman and others who want it :)

here's modview4b if you want to try it out: http://www.geocities.com/vasudanad/mod32b4b.zip
(better than 3 if we can't get 5 working in any case :) )
as for fixing 5, what actually happens? just an illegal operation? any error messages? tried reinstalling? (dumb question), were you trying to open it via double clicking a model or were you opening the exe from it's C:\DMTOOLS\MODVIW32 location?

i've just been trying to make a debug version for you, but visual studios keeps changing it back to Win32 release :sigh: not sure what to do about it. :(

What can Modelview beta5 excatly do? (I mean, what the normal Modelview can't)?

well, it has thruster editability added (although you can only modify the location, normal and size of them, the create, copy and delete seem to be broken)

there is also a texture viewer down the bottom in which you can see the exact map it is using for what and how many times etc.

other than that you have the sc released, so coders can do what they like with it, and you can have a higher limit version, meaning the only limits on you are those of the fs2 engine, rather than the much lower ones of modview. :) like the 3500 poly mod view limit as opposed to the 5000 fs limit

hmm, GE, you did install modelview05b first right? before putting in the higher limit version exe? cos at first i just stuck this version over modview04b and i got a similar crash at startup.

you must install the regular 05b version, then switch exe's. :)
