whenever i try to run FS2, this error pops up...
A fatal exception 00 has occurred at 00289F3F7C8 in a VXD WSIPX (01) + 00000B78
i LOVE FS and FS2 and i've been suffering 8 months without it... i cant much longer!

Try uninstalling it and reinstalling it.

Keeping you from playing altogether? A WSIPX error shouldn't happen unless you're playing over the net or a LAN, so at least you should be able to play SP. Not sure how to fix it for good, except to upgrade to a newer version of windows (I assume you're running '95 since you are getting that error, or maybe '98 with no service packs -not sure about that one- ?), but I suppose terminating any and all internet/LAN programs running at the same time might prevent it from occuring, since it's actually a conflict with two programs (IPX protocol and a windows sockets program specifically) trying to access the same buffer, so if you can get rid of one somehow the conflict should go away.

i'm on cable though... and i'm through a router, and i've tried not logging into my network and using my computer alone, it still doesn't work. i'm using win98, and reformatting and anything that would screw up my ability to use other programs is not an option unfortunately... if only i could get another computer...
oh and it pops up even before the intro starts playing...

Do you have the latest updates for '98? If not, Windows Update (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/).
-
it doesn't find any updates...
do you have MSN messenger?

Well, then I'm out of ideas on how to fix it, unfortunately. It's a known bug, but also one that is supposedly no longer around on fully updated Windows 98 and newer operating systems. But then, I don't see why it'd cause a problem on startup of all times... well... actually there's one thing I just thought of. In setup, under network, try setting your internet connection to none, just to make damn sure FS2 won't do anything net related. But if that doesn't work, I'm out of ideas :blah:
[Edit] That's FS2 setup, not anything Windows related, in case I was unclear. And messanger, yeah, kinda comes with the operating system, but we've about hit the limit of my tech-support knowledge so doubt it'd make any difference.
[Another edit] If I was awake I might've remembered this earlier, but I never quite am this time of night (see my location, heh). If you're REALLY desperate, try uninstalling your IPX/SPX protocol and then see if things work. If that doesn't fix it, reinstalling it is just as easy as removing it, all done in start->settings->control panel->network.
