Title: The dramatic moments in cinema.
Post by: Stunaep on May 13, 2003, 12:32:26 pm
Here's another 'what's your opinion' thread. This time it's dramatic moments in TV and cinema. What were the scenes that really made you go 'damn...' or 'holy cow' or ':eek2: ' etc. I'm not talking about spectacular action sequences (although they may have dramatic effect as well), but those that really made the characters on screen come alive.

I can think of the following off the top of my head:

The funeral of Mozart in Forman's 'Amadeus'.

The Aragorn/Haleth dialogue to Theoden's monologue before the battle of Helm's deep in The Two Towers.

the 'I wish the ring had never come to me....' scene by the river of Anduin in the end of FOTR.

but IMO, the one that tops them all is from a TV series: the bombing of Narn Homeworld in the B5 episode "The long Twilight Struggle". It's amazing how much emotion can one actor put into a 50-second scene. Simply amazing.

The escape sequence from Aliens. That just rocked because of the music. :D

From the same movie, Drake's death and the sequence following. Man, Vasquez was pissed.

Gandalf's death was pretty good in LOTR. Pardon me, but is that Obi-Wan there?

The battle sequence from Aliens was pretty good too. Not only did nearly half a dozen people die during the first few minutes, but just the dialogue was good too ("LET'S ROCK!")

The video-chat goodbye scene between father and daughter in Armageddon.

The first look at the new lightsaber fight choreography in TPM.

The termination of the good terminator in T2 (being lowered into the molten iron).

The death scene of that french guy and of John Coffee in the Green Mile.

The Balrog sequences in the Fellowship and the Two Towers. Now that's what an evil demon should look like!
