forget the bomb, they've got a frik'n death ray (http://reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=topNews&storyID=2732584)
don't know why but this seems funny to me.
-
US better bring in some Observers and find that ghost before it's too late...
-
I'm sorry, that title made me laugh, really hard.
-
:blah:
-
eh...the "new and potentially lethal weapon" is a targeting laser? :wtf: :D
Well, I suppose it can be pretty dangerous, but they will need to modify ssm.tbl first. :D

Die Another Day anyone? Man that Icarus cannon rocked....

what's that icarus cannon?

Funny, from the trailer, when you saw the rows of explosions erupting from the ground, I knew immediately that it was a minefield. I've layed/disarmed/renewed enough of them, after all. :p
-
Proves that the film people knew what they were doing I guess ;)
Spoiler:
The Icarus cannon was a cannon designed by the bad guy that redirected the energy from the sun directly onto a given spot of the planet, it could illuminate an area entirely as if it was daylight or it could focus itself to create a far more powerful laser weapon that destroys anything in its path. Top stuff :)

It was cool, but it seemed a bit out of place in a Bond movie, for some reason. Cliched from C&C, I guess. :p

It was just a space-borne version of the Solex system from The Man with the Golden Gun but that may have been the point, I'm still not sure...
-
yeah, or the golden eye, etc etc.
-
forget the bomb, they've got a frik'n death ray
YES!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
I suppose the next thing they'll sayis : All your nukes are belong to us. *A flashy beam hits the white house.* Hey who said the Icarus device can't be built? :D
-
Bah, better to put giant DU rocket-propelled darts up there. More bang for your buck!
-
w00t. They lit up 2 american hellicopters.
-
That'd be a ****ing hoot.
If they managed to get a working uber-laser the US would be ****ed as there's pretty much no defence against it. It's reliable, long-range, powerful, infinitely scalable and requires no restricted components to build.
"Okay Georgey, we'll surrender all our nuclear materials."
*laser tears apart the convoy sent to retrieve it just as it enters american territory*
*thermonuclear explosion ensues*
"Dude, we told you that **** was dangerous."
Not to mention they could take out American communication satellites and screw the armed forces beyond belief.
-
There is defence.... other lasers ;)
I mean do you really think the US hasnt been working on them? Sure I've no proof of it but if others have it's a fair bet that the US and/or other countries have investigated defence and retaliation against them.
Plus, lasers need a lot of power as far as I can make out, that doesn't always leave much room for deployment.
-
I imagine you could bring one las-sat down with ASAT missiles coming in from different vectors. It shouldn't be an insurmountable task to take it out when it can only take on 1 target at a time.
-
Shield technology anyone? ;7
-
Oh brother........

www.sinodefence.com/army/tank/type98.asp
ACTIVE PROTECTION: The Type 98 features an JD-3 integrated laser rangefinder/warning/self-defence device. Unlike contemporary Russian active tank self-defense systems like Drozd, Drozd-2, and Arena, which launch projectiles to disable or "shoot-down" incoming anti-tank missiles and projectiles, the Chinese system apparently uses a high-powered laser to directly attack the enemy weapon's optics and gunner.
The system includes what appears to be a laser warning receiver (LWR - the dome-shaped device on the turret roof behind the commander's position), that warns the crew that their tank is being illuminated by an enemy range-finding or weapon-guidance laser. The turret of the tank can then be traversed to face the direction of the enemy threat, and the laser self-defence weapon (LSDW - the box-shaped device on the turret roof behind the gunner's position), can be employed against the source of the enemy laser.
The procedure of the laser weapon would first use a low-powered beam to locate the optics of the enemy weapon. Once the enemy weapon was located, the power level of the laser would be immediately and dramatically increased. Such an attack would disable the guidance optics of the enemy weapon and/or damage the eyesight of the enemy gunner.
The available photos of the Type 98 have also confirmed that the laser weapon can be elevated to a higher angle than the tank's main gun, indicating that the engagement of attack helicopters is possible. In addition, the laser device could also be used for communications between friend tanks.
Thats the brand spanking new Type 98 MBT that just entered service.
Me thinks the Chinamen are helping the koreans, uh oh. :nervous:

Yes! :p Good job NKs! Show'em who runs the show now.
Shield technology anyone?
George Bush: My dear Americans. It has to come to my attention that my ass will be endangered by the North Korea's new straigh-lined light thingy...eeeh... technology (taking Bushes supreme intellect into account). So as your leader, I command that you make a human shield around me and my little white house in order to protect it...ehh..my arse that is. Don't worry, all of you who die will be rewarded in hel...ehh I mean heaven and the rest of you who survive will be used in every next attack that comes.
No shield is more powerfull than the one of humans who blindely follow their "great leader".
don't know why but this seems funny to me.
Several months later....
Bob: Are you freakin insane??? :mad2: They are threatening us with their new weapon of mass destruction. We must urge da president to nuke da bastards. Nuke em you bi*ch...NUKE EM! :mad2: :mad2: :mad2:

More like: ARGH! They've harnessed the power of the Sun with black magic!
Also: :hopping:

Just wondering what human shields have to do with Bush's stupidity and chinese lasers.

Yeah, I heard it was on the "tickle" setting. :D

It was set to somewhere between "Argh! My frickin eyes!" and "Not in the face! Not in the face!". It's hard to tell coz it's a small dial and the pictures on it are kinda fuzzy.

Razor, why are you being such a pain in the ass?

Shut up, Razor.
Dammit, I want an MDW-grade laser. I suppose I need the 700-ton nuclear plant to power it, but hey...

Actually, 'twas a repeat of an earlier bond movie. I forget the name, but I remember: Jaws, Death Ray Satelite, Cable Car. This ringing any bells?

BTW, the US is developing it's own laser system. It's nose-mounted on a turret in a 747 (I think it's a 747)

Am I the only one to find this contradictory and amusing? ;)

Is this really that big a deal? I mean, so they can blind gunners/fry optics. But given the time it would take to do that, I'm sure they would be shot at first by either the tank they are attempting to blind or another.

Mmmm, black budget. Do you know how massive the US black budget is? You could buy the whole of Australia with it several times over. :p

Yup. And it's not for killing tanks, it's for shooting down Scuds. Because those Patriots just don't work as well as the army says they do.
-
"as the Army says they do" meaning "at all", of course.
Beh. They're inefficient, inaccurate, haven't worked in a non-rigged test yet, and a fantastic waste of money, but on the other hand they're laser weapons. I mean, DUDE! I'm really torn here...

? should take less than a second for a high powered laser to fry optics ( either mechanical or organic :p )
btw, everybod has laser weapons :doubt:
I even saw an israelian laser tank prototype somewhere on the net.
-
There's a slight difference between a major first-world nation with a huge ****in' army dabbling in experimental lasers and a tiny jungle-based third-world Communist state possibly actively making use of a functional laser cannon.;)

Had you been here "as long as the most of us" you'd know that Razor is one of those rabidly anti American people who turn anything into a rant about how stupid the Yanks are. I mean, I don't like some of their international policies, and I wouldn't want to live there, but Razor takes it to ridiculous extremes. And he thinks he's funny when he does it. :doubt: . So don't worry, your confusion is understandable.
-
well... yeah, there's a difference between NK and Israel.
your point being?

I consider myself to quite anti-American at times, but I bury those feeling here because of the high number of American members, for the sake of keeping the peace. Anyway, American people I have no trouble with (mostly), but the govt. and corporations that piss me off.
Razor has yet to learn how to integrate into a society of any kind.
I remember being banned from the PCG forums for violent ranting about George Bush and his "American people should ahve the right to pollute" crap, but now I have learned (for the most part) to keep such sentiments under wraps when online.
-
And he thinks he's funny when he does it.
Oh so it's my fault that only 1% percent of your brain is working.
I've seen comments that weren't even funny and people just started to spam the thread with LOLs. Mostly, these comments were written by someone "high up". and so people just started laughing madly because of their fear of the high uppers. Like for instance the "Who wants to be a mjolnir?" thread. Oh yeah! What a joke...what a joke.
-

yeah, but the thing is that this is all it would do. You could fire a missile instead in that time, which would have the same the effect but would fry the rest of the target as well. :D The main application I see with these types of lasers is for intercepting missiles.

I would be ready to put up with that if he actually had any competence and did not show his total ignorance almost every time (and on topics of his choice too); even Bush himself could do much better. If you are going to start fights all the time, at least make your arguments solid so that they actually present a challenge. :D ah well, he is "about to be hammered" anyway. :D

well, if your read closely, you'll notice intercepting missiles is exactly what it seems to be supposed to do ( analogy to the russian antimissile missiles ;) ).
anyway, destroying the targeting system of a vehicle renders this one about useless. even more if you make the pilot blind :p.
-
CP: A pilot can't see, you've got one crashed plane/helicopter. Same effect as launching a rocket, only nearly untraceable, at the moment legal, and reusable.
Razor: Yeah, those admins. Can't trust 'em, they've got everyone on the line. People who don't laugh at their jokes, you know, they take 'em into the back room, and they're never seen again.
Can also see into your mind using the electromagnetic waves from your monitor, tell if you're thinking bad thoughts about them. I got 'em foxed, though, I took some tinfoil and wrapped it around my head, they can't penetrate that...

Wow! I am impressed. I didn't know that some people around here have brains. When I saw that: *eh...who is someone "high up"?* I thought: It's over. This guy totally went down the drain.
ah well, he is "about to be hammered" anyway.
Pff...like I really care. :p But hey... I see you do. Might as well do something usefull while I am still sticking around.

We should turn our microwave weapons on them next time they laze our stuff:nod:

I Guess that's why they keep having powercuts;)
Take a look at this place (http://www.kcna.co.jp/index-e.htm) if you want to read something interesting. I especially liked the article about the beer brewery opening up in Peyonyang.
