I just finished playing the main Half-Life game and the Half-Life: Blue Shift and Half-Life: Opposing Force expansions over the past week (yes, I was playing on easy dificulty. No, don't ask why). I just bought the Half-Life Platinum Collection that has all three of the above games and Team Fortress and Counter-Strike.
My friend showed me Half-Life last year, but non-Jedi first person shooters were never really my cup of tea...until last week.
Oh, and if anyone wants to read the previes for Half-Life 2, you can find links to them here:
http://www.planethalflife.com/half-life2/previews/
This makes for an interesting read, no matter which preview you choose.
Oh, and here is a link to a before-and-after shot of the G-Man (aka the Man in the Suit).
http://www.gamespy.com/asp/image.asp?platform=PC&image=/previews/may03/halflife2pc/05.jpg
I have to say, the G-Man sounded eerie in Half-life 1; now he'll get to sound just as eerie in Half-Life 2 because the same actor is going to voice him and with these improved graphics in HL2, he'll look eerie as well.
BTW, if there are any Half-Life players out there, I'd like an answer to a question. I know that Xen is referred to as a "border world," but what precisely is Xen at the border of?

Kind of on topic: Does anyone else have trouble running Half Life on XP?
-

-
Hmm... Grrr... This means I gotta finally upgrade my old Geforce3... Hmm, perhaps a Radeon 9800... Actually, anyone buy a Geforce FX lately?

I would hope not...
The GF FX 5200 (AKA FX MX), 5600 and 5800 all suck and the 5900 (the only FX worth even considering) is at the price point only people with questionable intelligence shell out for.

Nope, never had a problem.

Yay, crowbars! :D
Looks good, dunnit?
I've never had a problem running HL on XP, though I can't run anything at the moment - PC is in bits on my desk. :hopping: :hopping:
(sorry, gratuitous use of the new smilie here)

Ok, upon opening the Half Life exe, I get this...
Half-Life
Half-Life has a known compatibility issue with this version of Windows. For an update that is compatible with this version of Windows, contact Sierra.
To run the program, click Continue. For more information, click Details.
And of course there's the old Cancel option which isn't any help. Clicking Details does nothing what so ever, but I can run the program with the Continue option. Get so far as the game menu, but if you try to play at all, it promts for entry of the game cd. The cd however is in and is an original cd.
-
have you tried compatability options?
-
If you mean that thing that lets you run it under 2000 or 98 etc conditions then yeah. No luck.

Ahem, with the new graphics he looks exponentially less eerie. Before he was this weird pasty-faced square-headed barely-human character. Now he just looks like some stubbly burned-out office drone counting the seconds until his next smoke break.

I agree, hope they keep the same voice actor though. Something about that voice :shaking:
-
well, he has green eyes. that's cute on girls, that's gloomy on that dude...

They did. Apparently most of the voice talent is returning. One of the Gamespot clips shows the "Einstein" character firing up some equipment, and it's freaky hearing that familiar voice coming out of such an upgraded body.
-
Apparently the entire voice acting cast has returned for HL2, however you can see already that Barney's and Walter's voices sound distinctly different thanks to higher quality audio :(
-
BTW, anyone else think the new Barney looks a little... wimpy? I just can't see that face saying, "Sure, why not? I didn't wanna die alone anyway."
-
Seen the clip where the Scientist is setting up equipment, and Gordon knocks a monitor over?
"Do be careful Gordon"
-
Yup. The animation of Alyx is amazing. And it's neat that the scientist not only sounds the same, he talks the same way too (always muttering about parameters and nominal conditions and such).

*Can't wait for H-L:2*
Playing Half-life, Blue shift, and the like were some of the best times I ever had on a computer.
*gets a little misty-eyed* :sigh:
Excuse me...
-
This all seems nominal...
