I have several ship about to be converted - two colony ships and 2 liners...
The question is ... should they be armed? If so, how much?
-
Colony ships:
Yes, if for colonization in unknown parts. (mostly flak and AAA. Perhaps a single beam)
No, if for colonization in systems under allied control.
Liners:
Civvie loadout :p
-
no and no. they're civilian ships, escorts are there for a reason.
-
Errr... on the liners I said CIVVIE loadout. As in CIVILIAN. All ships have defense mechanisms, civvie ones are just weaker then military grade laodouts.
Also, colony ships aren't per definition civilian. Usually its the government that initiates colonization. And when you go into unknown systems you don't want to go unarmed. Cause colony ships are quite expensive. Granted, it won't be a very strong ship but I should have some sort of defense.

shhhh!
I wasn't replying to you, I was replying to Trashman, don't be all worked up like that ;)
and I don't see civilians or colonisations the same way than you, that's all :)

Here they are:
The colony ships has 12 turrets (4 heavy flak, 4 aaaf and 4 Terran turret) - 4000m
The Luxury Liner has none. - 2000m
The Military science vessel has 14....( 10 Mekhu lasers, 2 AAAf and 1 Terran Heavy Turret, 1 Plasma Turret) - 220m
Converted, edited...now in testing.....

The little guy can't be seen good on the pic above, so here it is:

Coments? Advice?:D

Alright, who stepped on the Fastus? :p
Other than that, it's a nifty ship.
I personally don't believe that civillian ships should be armed at all, after all, the big sea cargo liners & passenger liners don't have deck guns/etc...
-
they also dont have the problem of nasty giant space insects coming down and blowing the crap out of them just cause they looked at em funny :D

Christopher Marlowe! :D (Commonly known and classified as Shakespeare's Drinking Buddy.)
Trashman, make sure that you bevel the areas on the ship with lights. There must be an angle of incidence when two different textures meet, or it will look down right poopy.

I think that most of the areas where the textures change are angled..... Oh well... I MIGHT give it a little more detail, but later
In a day and a half I made the following:
-These 3 ships,
-The CTCv Echelon for the Lightning Marshall
-Worked more on the Vasudan starbase, begun turreting it...
-Fixed the Thunderbolt and Armageddon (re-did the models), still have to texture them
- begun work on another music
- balanced and tested different TBL settings for weapons/ ship speeds
- re-did the Iowa model (textured, turreted), needs converting
I'M BEAT......:sigh:

Are you talking about FS2? Cos that aint true unless you on about FS2 or yuor own universe or something...
Colony ships can be anything... mine for example range from tiny family ships ~60m long to 'war' ships by definition ~500 - 1000m. it depends on the size of the colony and the money and resources of the coloniser (which is only the 'goverment' about a quater in my case).
Colony ships quite expensive? So the other ships the same size arnt?
Trashman, go for no weapons on liner and a couple on colony (but no beams - they would need the space for colony equipment EDIT: I thought I saw a main beam in that disc... ??? pantom text! still IMO less AAA) in my opinion.
(You know im right;7 );)

This is Freespace. Everything should have guns. even cargo containers. even navbouys! even jump nodes and knosses portals should have turrets! damnit, even waypoints should have turrets!
-
The liner doesn't have turrets, and the big colony ship has only a few...
And I have an armed cargo container(4 turrets)... and a armed transport to carry it(4 turrets)....:D
