In the game Starsiege, the trainer tells the pilot to always target the enemy, never shoot by guessing, although you still hit them, the cannons have an ever so slight auto aim to them scripted by a slight Homing feature. Tech room readouts of the Avenger and others call for auto targeting and other stuff that doesnt coincide with the Reticle feature of the late 20th century. Why not make the canons in the near future campaigns slightly homing, so they autotarget, but not much, say they change velocity up to 6 inches in real life. they fire the same dumbfired and no player can see them home, they just feel the are autotargetted to that ship, but it still requires Much reticle action, it doesnt really help the player much but still gives the feeling of evolution in the terms of freespace weapons!

"cough" "please copy/paste that: http://www.geocities.com/venom250681/Descentweapons01.html?992296291550 ("http://www.geocities.com/venom250681/Descentweapons01.html?992296291550")

Sorry, I did a true one before (check the last pic (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif) )

Unfortunately, it seeks, not autoaims, so it's a bit weird......

Whoa, that looks so cool. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

yeah, but it has a so little turning rate, it looks about the same.

How'd you...? Is that a primary or secondary doing that homing in the bottom pic?
Cause when I was playing with the weapons.tbl, I added homing to a cannon (Subach) and all it did was to still fire in a straight line, but the graphic would turn to face the enemy (which looked pretty funky since the Subach graphic is long and narrow).
But is that primary weapons not following a straight line?
Joe.

well, it's just a secondary, sorry to disapoint you. The whole stuff was to have a secondary look like a primary in fact (glow)
plus, I wanted to have a "Descent" feeling, so a limited ammo weapon was the way to go (if you ask people who knows about Descent, they will tell you how powerfull is the omega cannon at short range (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif) )
-
Thats really cool!
-
Nifty. I tried homing primaries in FS1 and it crashed.
I didn't know you could add primary glow features to a secondary weapon.

That homing beam reminds me of something out of a console shooter. *heh* That's really kickass, Venom. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Not suprising really, every console game I can think of has autoaiming! (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

lack of interest from the community.

Not true.... there were plenty of people interested.
I thought it was a lack of mission designers, anyway?

really? never had much feedback.
Anyway yes, I think by that time nobody wanted to make missions for me.
-
Nobody gave any feedback because we were all too busy with things. Did you even have a website for it? If you started working on it again i bet lots of people would be interested! Right guys?

someone (don't remember who tho) was working on a website, but it really didn't go fast.
Anyway, about the descent campaign, working on it again = no way.
I'm already working on Over the Top, remember?

Raven was meant to have taken over the Descent Mod... I remember, I gave him the title...

I think it's a shame that nobody has ever made use of the Freespace engine's tunnel flying origins. As far as Venom goes though, I'm happy with the outstanding models he's churning out instead.
