this time it's not a stupid joke :p
oh, and those who don't like eva or animes, just don't post, thank you.
anyway:
ADV ( anime editor in the USA ) has anounced at Cannes that they bought the eva license and will make a live movie out of it.
the said the project is already started, and is a common endeavour between them, GAINAX ( the guys behind the anime series ) and WETA ( the people responsible of the special effects in... well, last exemple is the Lord of the Rings :P ).
John Ledford ( head of ADV ) said there would be more news soon.
I dunno. the fact that Gainax works on it is a good thing, and WETA have proved already how good they are ( lotR, the frighteners, etc ). wonder who's the director, the cast, etc, tho.
-
the results should be interesting to see:nod:
-
EVA IS ALIVE GOD THANKS I WAITING :hopping: :hopping: :nervous: :hopping:
i am big fan of EVA series:)
-
I love anime, but, srry, I think this is going to stink.
-
I don't know, it just sounds kinda strange to me. If it comes out in Australia I'll definitely watch it, but... EVA pilots in real life? I'm frightened. Who are they gonna cast for Asuka? Tiara?
-
lordy, an eva with an axe.... now that's scary:shaking: :nervous: :shaking:
-

well, I'm not very optimistic either.
it's gonna look great, that's for sure ( WETA ), but... dunno.
-
well, all mechs look cool when done in CG...
-
It'll suck. Remember people that we're talking about the company that casts Spike Spencer in every angsty teen role that comes there way...
-
This will be a really interesting thing to see. I have my doubts too but I have my hopes high
-
It'll be fun to watch even if only for the special effects. Let's hope they keep the size of the EVAs consistent on the movies, though. :p
-
I hope they'll keep the main characters Jappanese - otherwise it would be another americanized pieco of...whaterver.
Imagine the American Shinji going into Misato's house and say - sorry for intrusion?????
If they keep Tokyo-3, Jap surroundings - including that wonderful scenery, the angst - I mean the ANGST, the devious (and yes admit it - ugly looking) - organic Evas they already get 3 out of 5 on my rating.
Keep the phlosophy, the slow "melting" scenes with the infamous but very powerful mute sceens and I give 4 - personal taste.
Yeah by the way I'm a big EVA *and fanfic - chek Eva-R* fan.
It was a pain to get it in Hungary. I only have it on CD. It was aired on VOX that's how I first saw it...Jesus I don't speak German - or read it! - , understund little Jappanese, but it still got me hooked.
-
I saw this on slashdot this morning, was very disturbed. How are they going to make a legitimate evangelion movie with two hours and a finished anime series? There's little space for a movie to get in.
-
well, that'll be w/o a doubt a stand alone story. no cntinuity with the series.
other than that, I doubt the gainax will let the americans do weird stuff with the story. they're very ( and I mean VERY ) conservative about their licenses.
-
bump, just for that link:
http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=15399
doesn't show much alright :p
-
now with live action characters... i dunno..
now if square(final fantasy, final flight of the osiris) got in on the act... the prospects may be slightly better...
-
Eva with Final Fantasy (TSW) graphics? Now that'd be awesome :D
-
precisely, even anime fanatics would be willing to let them get away with that (i think)
-
(http://www.aintitcool.com/image/evangelion3.jpg)
Ahhh, soothing to my eyes. :)
Really hope they come through with this, and don't let the project die.

well, with Gainax and WETA on it, I'm not complaining.
-
Well, I don't know if this is gonna work. I hope it is gonna though I seriously doubt it.
And when it is going to work you'll have 99125248 other anime series being converted to live series...
DBZ live :shaking:
Medabots live :shaking:
Pokémon live :shaking: :shaking: :shaking: :shaking: :shaking: :shaking:
-
:p DBZ live already exists ( chinese movie ), and there's another one in preparation. there's already a lot of anime turned to live movies, and quite a few being done/planed. you just don't know about it ;)
-
I think I will visit some of the producers... with my axe...

<-=really big NGE fan :D.
I hope its good. Though one wonders how they are gonna fit all the episodes etc into a probably 2 hour movie. They just better make sure they don't ruin it or anything.
Gundam had a live-action movie as well.

-Though by gundam standards it was their worst production ever.

There was a Koutetsu Tenshi Kurumi live action series done too, really scary from what I know of it. Real actors in tight maid-suits fighting giant robots!? :blah:

I still have to see Kurumi, I have friends who are fan of that series...
sounds like Mahoromatic to me tho.

This, I predict will suck beyond all belief, but it will be absolutely gorgeous while doing it. You can't go wrong with WETA, but you can certainly go wrong with the source material.
-
why did you even bother posting about that? the result was so easy easy to predict, when I saw your name as last poster, I knew what I'd read :p
Anyway, I thought what you didn't like was the technic? ther will be no 1 minute still plan in the movie, you can be sure of that :p

Well, I was agreeing with other that the movie will suck. Live action remakes of anime almost always do. I don't like the direction or the post production on Evangelion at all. I DO, however, like the design sense put into the EVAs. Gainax did a good job on that stuff (even if they screwed up on the angels). I DO look forward to seeing WETAs work on the film, even if I am not looking forward to having to put up with what will likely be crap.
So, why did I reply? Maybe to back you up on what you said about WETA up there? Or maybe to express that WETA will do a good job?
Dude, I don't have to like the source material to appreciate good work on the part of WETA. I though that Frighteners was one of the worst movies ever, but the VFX work was awesome. Quit being so defensive. :p
-
y'know, when i saw the title, I wondered how you could make a live cartoon... i mean, it would hurt the animators wrists quite a bit, wouldn't it?

well with gainax along for the ride, some originality might be there too.. or, they might just contain the entire series into a movie length timeslot(see LOTR times)

Be afraid... (http://quantium40.port5.com/images/eva02_axe.jpg):D:p
Well, well, well. I was wondering how long it'd take before they worked up the nerve to try this. And hopefully it won't be another Godzilla...
Also odd, you'd think they'd have director, cast, etc. listed before they started preproduction sketches.
I'll give them the benefit of the doubt (for the time being), and say that the movie has potential, but knowing how things have to be so dumbed-down for the average jack off the street, it's prolly not going to live up to the anime's reputation. However, if they took the TV series, and adapted it into a string of movies, then they've got the potential to ease the weak-minded masses into this epic, and then take off running with them...
Hell, if they're gonna try this, maybe they should try making a few live-action Robotech movies. At least there's enough space in its plotline (I think, anyways) to have a few little side-stories that wouldn't affect the rest of the series.
-
the japanese would never work on a robotech movie :p
Macross, on the other hand, that's another story :)

Hey, I remember that mission... is that the Spider angel? I only remember one of them being set in a proper non-levelled city.
-
I think that's the sphere/shadow deal angel, no?
the spider one, they're stuck in an airvent, they don't go out to kill it.
-
The movie will suck beyond comprehension!!

Actually that was one of the launch lifts, not a airvent. The angel in that picture is the sphere angel or Leliel, the 12th angel.

well at least those pics look nice... ... let's just hope it will not be a Power Rangers clone in the end :D

heh, I'm not a geek!
ok, let me rephrase, I'm not a complete geek :p
I happen to go out quite often, and even flee from my PC ( but usually it's for her own good, that's when I want to give it a round shape in order to calm my mood. restructuration by the foot, that's a great, but expensive sport :p).
anyway, girls usually like me, so I'm not worried :p

The ones you pay don't count.
Tiara, am I supposed to be afraid of a chick with an axe? I'm married to a italian woman, who grew up in Australia. My grandmother is puerto rican. My grandmother can throw shoes around corners with pinpoint accuracy. Both of them have tempers dangerous enough to halt men with guns in their tracks. And I'm supposed to be afraid of some chick in Europe with an axe? Please. Stick to trying to intimidate the boys around here.
-
ah, those americans, always feel allmighty :p
That said, yeah, I'm afraid of italian girls, coz when they start talking, you can't stop them :p
Now I understand why you argue so much on HLP, it's to wash your frustration coz you never have the last word at home

Damn. I'm afraid I've been caught. ;)
Nah. She actually tends to talk not enough. I'll do something minor, she'll get mad--but she won't say a word. Then she'll pick over it in her head, getting madder and madder until she finally explodes. By that time, so much time has gone by that I don't even remember what she's talking about. :D Its funny and tragic all at once.

I just have one thing to say to that:

Minus italian chicks and shoe slinging grandma's, what else scares you guys?
PS: My mother scares me, she gives you this "evil eye" like she's puttin a hex on ya.

I'm desperately afraid of heights. And the dark. I'm 30yo and terrified of the dark. My reaction to this, of course, is to go skydiving (in October! :)), climb giant rocks, do line work for the cable company, etc and walk around in pitch black tunnels and old houses.
we gotta get our adrenaline SOMEWHERE right?

A feature-film version of Neon Genericus? For American audiences? Eesh.
Wouldn't that be like Jerry Bruckheimer's 2001: A Space Odyssey?

It could possibly be even worse.
on the other hand, it'll have WETA graphics. Like most Gainax stuff, it might be okay to turn the volume down and put on some good music and leave it in the background as visual white noise.
-
Bizzare. This thread was totally hijacked into "what are you most afraid of".

well.. some people are afraid of the EVA Live so... :p

How many Angel battles could you cram into two hours anyway?
Conversely, how many circular ramblings on the Meaning of Life could you cram in two hours?
And how many hours would it take to explain all the stuff that never got explained in the series because the guy producing it was a lunatic who was just making **** up as he went along?

Not Nadia, but I've seen Gunbuster. Gunbuster is second only to Evangelion for being utter ****. Pretty ****, but utter **** no less. If you cut out the 10min or so in Gunbuster that are not space combat sequences, then turn off the sounds and crank some good music, it becomes wonderful. :D

I thouth I was not gona comment.
mikhael some of what you say is...no comment.
As for good music...I enjoyed both Gunbuster and Eva...though...
Did anyone saw the "Bohemian Raphsody" music video with Evangelion?
That thing Rocks!!!
That time the song fits so darn good!:

heh? as you're being so cathegorical, I'll answer the same way: your tastes are ****.
Gunbuster is cool ( well, save for the gunbuster itself ). only scifi show I know where they actually paid some attention to physics in space, with the whole time distortion whebn you travel at light speed, and stuff like that. Plus the aliens are cool.
plus out of 6 episodes, there's not even a space scene in the first episode, and little combat scenes in episode 2 and 3. Have you really seen it? don't think so :p
But I don't need to prove anything to such a pityful critic .

Yes, because one robot against what looks like... what? an entire galaxy? yeah, that's attention to physics and reality and stuff. Real good attention

Exaggeration for effect, Venom. I didn't like it. I can't help it if you did. I can't prove anything to you because you're as firmly entrenched on your side of the argument as I am on mine. You're entitled to your ****ty opinion, even if it is wrong.

You're entitled to hate everything that is good too :p
There's that kind of people who always hate what other people like, and claimes that every obscure thing that hardly anybody knows is a work of genius, and you're one of them ;)
But I'm curious... what are the animes you like ( if any... )?

Gunbuster happens to be one of my favourite animes, coz I looked beyond the " mecha anime with an uberpowerful robot" aspect of it. Be frightened, coz the plot of OTT was based on it. So yeah, I ought to defend it.

Very few of the things, except Iwar, is obscure, thanks.
But I'm curious... what are the animes you like ( if any... )?
Most of the anime I like is mecha anime of one sort or another. Detonator Orgunn was excellent, as was the original Macross, and I liked Macross II better, but I hate Macross7 and Macross Plus. I liked Hades: Project Zeroymer. I enjoyed what little I saw of Escaflowne. I like Valley of the Wind, Mononoke Hime, and I love the Final Fantasy anime. I liked the first Guyver (even if it is gratuitous crap) but not the second. I liked Appleseed and am willing to bet I'd like the rest of Shirow's work. Bubblegum Crisis is fun, as long as you don't try to read too much into it, but avoid Crash, and the other spin off series. I especially like Ninja Science Team Gatchaman, including the american butchering of it, and the remake. Oh and there's something I saw that had a planet stuck through with a giant sword and a sword-and-sorcery with mecha theme that wasn't too bad.
I'm sure I missed a few in there. Like some of the Gundam series, but dear god not all of them.

I don't care about the uberpowerful robot part, or that it was Mecha anime. It was just CRAP. If I never hear that girl scream "CO-CHEEE!!!!!" ever again, it will be too soon.
Are you satisfied?

you mean the manga, I hope...
For the rest, I tend to agree ( save for the macross, I haven't seen macross7, but macross2 wasn't nearly as good as the others ). haven't seen the FF series, and gatchaman was butchered in France too.
Haven't seen Full Metal Panic and Blue Gender? two excellent mecha series, Blue Gender is in my top 10 ( very weird ending tho ).
-
If we're talking about the same Appleseed I saw... ugh. Felt like the last episode of a three-episode series.
Now Roujin-Z (sp?), that was some funny stuff.

Ahhh Evangelion, it's been so long since I've seen the series... still gotta catch the movies.
