would it be possible to make a beam cannon that uses a .pof file instead of just a flat texture. The warp in/out effect is a .pof so why not weapons effects
-
I think this has been suggested before. I think it was decided that nobody would notice the difference.
-
but it wouldn't just be a cylinder. It would be wavy like the subspace effect
-
Subspace weapon=

And it would be wavy for 20,000 meters? The .pof would be so stretched out that it wouldn't be noticeably different.
EDIT: I like the idea, but I just don't think it will work.

I don't think it would be cool enough to warent the rather lengthy amount of work it would require
-
whatabout point sprite weapon effects?
-
or you could just have a beam cannon with a subspace texture
-
I wanted a flat beam that you could fly around and see its shape... that could be useful for it (orther someone with have to make a lot of coding working how to change a 2D beam to look like its 3D and flat:ick )

*cough* supspace corridor models *cough*
anyone thought of using those models?

i started putting little laser beams on my missiles thanks to the glow point system, ive got some cool effects so far. you can have stuff like decent looking bullet trails, laser tracking missiles (which look real cool), and decoy mines (they draw turret fire) and stuff like that. makes my flare weapons really cool. also ive used the custom particle spew to create animated trails on rockes, such as my recreation of the descent 2 mercury missiles, plasma cannons and other things like that. i can now have weapon effects that i never thought of seeing in freespace. subspace weapons can be made with theese techniques.

made many descent weapons long time ago, used the engine glows :D
I even made the phoenix :) ( tho the "bouncing" is really random... ).
