Right click on the the taskbar, go to properties, start menu, and change it back to the classic style. Then XP will seem more like the improved version of windows that it is, not just a drugged up version.

My folks USB scanner (a HP ScanJet 3300C) installed without a hitch. The whole process is light years ahead of 2k as I no longer have to install the HP scanning software (which was extremely flaky under 2k), XPs wizard replicates its functionality almost perfectly.

Oh, and the XP Classic theme is uuuuuuuuuuuuggggggggggggggggggggggggggglllllllllllllllllllllly yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy, if you don't like the default themes go to a place like themexp.org and find one more to your taste (along with a uxtheme.dll patcher).

I'd go for WB4... StyleXP (the program you need for themexp.org's stuff) expires eventually, but WB4's evaluation lasts forever.

All you need to install Luna themes on XP is a way to convince it to use unsigned themes. All StyleXP does is provide a fancy GUI interface for it and handle the actual theme application through either running as a service (more recent versions) or the more crude method of directly patching the uxtheme.dll (older versions). A quick Google search on "uxtheme.dll patcher" will give you a whole bunch of links to sites hosting freeware applications that'll do pretty much the same thing just without the fancy interface and price tag of StyleXP.

I'd also recomend you to take advantage of XP's networking.  It's virtually plug-and-play, you can set it up in about 30 seconds.
Similarly, the web folders option (though i havent tried this on another OS) is extremely good, doesnt take long to set up, just drag and drop files into it like a normal folder on you HD.
