$1 Billion prize if you won?
I would start my own software/game company and hire all the ex-Volition staff to make FS3. I would also setup a dedicated server for HLP.
Another plan of mine is if I won, invite all the HLP members to an E3 like event for a unset amount of time so we can get together and talk FS and FS modding. I would of course pay for everything ;7. Plane tickets, hotel rooms, spending money for anything you guys and gal would want to do here in little ol' Willmar.
So yeah that's what I'd do with part of the money. What would you do?

I'd buy a chocolate factory, then make a mountain of chocolate. Then i'd get a gaint orbital magnifying glass to shine on it, and melt it, covering the earths surface in sticky sweet chocolate, and then all creatures under 4 feet tall would be locked in its cocoa embrace, and that would be the end of dogs - cause i dont like dogs, they always bark at me.:nod:
....and then i'd probably shut my face and go to bed. :nervous:

I'd become Beats' Arch-Enemy, Capt. Vanilla. I would pretend I was as dope as chocolate and make rap music about how cool I am and then I would taint his chocolate mountain with a mixture of vanilla and vinegar because I like dogs.

I would buy AMD, and make them send me pre-production copies of the Athlon 64 for my own personal use! And then I'd just let the CEO run the company, and become even richer.

i'd buy the parts to build my own particleaccellerator and shatter our own misconceptions about the laws of physics..... that.. and buy the parts for a decent computer...:p

let's see, first, I'd build me a kickass computer, then I'd run the fastest internet connection my money could buy into my room, then I' d build kickass computers for my friends, then I'd keep the rest. When all my stuff became outdated (few months) I'd do it all over again.:D

I'd buy a small country, then take over the world or something. They have all of those goofy little countries in Africa. I could use one of those. I could set up a nice dictatorship, maybe hire Castro or someone as my adviser. A jet with my face on the tail would be nice too. And a trained monkey, of course. :wtf:

as for me, I'd get a decent computer that I can actually use to play games on, then I'd buy a whole new skateboard, except the trucks since I just got them. And I'll just save the rest for whenever I feel like wasting it.

Meh..I don't know what I would do. I would probably pay for my drivers licence and buy a cool BMW or Aston Martin convertable or something.
And I don't really think I would spend money on things like computers and games. I allready have a good PC which I am happy with. Ok maybe a 42" Plasma Screen wouldn't hurt. ;7

As for the other $999.9 million, well, I'd bank it and live comfortably off the interest. I don't care enough about my fellow man or fellow gamers to try to do any good for any of them, thanks. ;)

first, if you're a billionaire, why would you want to go to college at all.
second, "i'd bank it and live comfortably off the interest". ... you can bank 1 million and live very comfortably off the interest... 999 million... you, and your entire family, and everyone in the world with the first name as you could live comfortably off the interest :D

Because I consider an education second only to love, food and shelter as "things necessary to my personal happiness". That's it. nothing else.

Well they probably would, but they would all skin you alive 1 year after you hire them. Remember, Girls are evil, they are greedy and just looking for those with deep pockets. So, my opinion is: Don't waste money on them. Not one girl is worth it. Trust me. Hm...but an F 22 sounds nice. :nod:

Damn, Razor - you must've had a BAD experience to have a view of women like that. Yeah, there are some really shallow, sad people like that out there, but they're too stupid to see beyond shopping and fast cars, and not worth bothering with.
What can I say - I'm sorry if you feel like that, but get over it, man! Life's too short.
Oh, by the way, Dark_4ce - you'd get maybe one tail fin of an F22 for a billion dollars - they're something like $20bn each, AFAIR. (Hell, I might be wrong, but I don't care! ;) )
If I had a billion dollars (about £610 million), I'd buy:
A nice house with a big-ass garden
A Lamborghini Gallardo (the new one)
An Audi Quattro S1 rally car
A garage to put them in (I ain't gonna drive them much - they use to much fuel.)
A Lotus Elise to drive round in - 50mpg!!!!
A Spitfire Mark IX / Hawker Typhoon - for buzzing stuff!
The same for a De Havilland Vampire jet fighter.
An Avro Vulcan, and get it completely restored and flyable - for long-range cruising :cool:
The same for the TSR.2 prototype ;7
A new PC every year

I'd hold a rock festival with Bob Geldof in the grounds of said house, and get all of the world's best bands to play. The proceeds would go towards getting Africa to work properly. Live Aid 2, anyone? :D
I'd stick the rest in the bank, and live off half the interest. The rest would go towards charities and stuff (i.e. paying people to kick the ****e out of big business bastards who refuse to run their corporations responsibly... :mad:)
Oops, this got a bit political, didn't it? Not to mention far-fetched. Ah well - it's nice to dream, innit? ;)
Oh, one more thing - keep it a secret from as many people as possible, so it doesn't cloud their impression of me. I wouldn't let money change me! (Hmmm, how likely is that? :lol: )

Razor, what Tiara said. She knows what she's on about. Yes, a lot of girls are shallow. Yes, 99% of boys are shallow. AFAIK, 'a lot' is less than '99%', QED. Get over it. Think what a ***** life must be for girls looking for the 1% :p
EDIT: Oh, and so that this post cannot be considered entirely OT, if I had that kind of money I would employ a boat-building company to build me some kind of uber-boat that was totally environmentally friendly and self sustainable. Maybe with solar panels and crop growth areas and stuff. Then I'd live on it. The rest of the money would go into banks etc., with the majority of the interest going to good causes, and a minute amount of it being used for port fees and miscellaneous cool stuff I might need every now and then ^_^

First things first: I'm an American, born in Europe, and lived all over the world. To be more precise, I'm half puerto-rican and half North Carolinian. I'm a military brat thru and thru.
Second, spending the interest off of a billion dollars would be very easy between my wife and I. First off, a CAVE Virtual Reality System (http://www.evl.uic.edu/pape/CAVE/) will run me a cool million right off. My render farm would cost me another $20-30 million in hardware, plus another $25 million in building, power, water and lands costs. Consider that the cost to get a TIME SHARE on a LearJet60 for 800hrs per year is about $12.5 million and I want to BUY ONE. Then there's things that need to be done like buying out underused corporate properties from negligent holders. How much do you think it will cost to buy the rights to all the games licenses that I love? We're talking hundreds of millions now. I haven't even gotten to my wife's spending yet and already, I'm pushing a signifigant fraction of a billion.
We live in a world where the really interesting stuff costs signifigant fractions of a billion dollars. I'm not concerned at all about being abl e to blow through that interest.

Bah, planes are a ripoff. Never mind that they guzzle incredibly expensive fuel like a wino drowning in a keg, never mind that modern civilian planes are built with all the skill, durability, and quality one would expect of the end product of a one-armed autistic monkey undergoing electroshock, if you just buy the engines straight from factory and set up your own body (with a handful of engineers, of course, and a machine shop if you can't access one already) and never go far above five digits.
But helicopters are so much cooler anyway- why on Earth wouldn't you put that same money towards a slightly crashed, rebuilt gunship?:D

I would buy some Coca-cola stock and Pepsi stock then i would place half of the rest in...a bank. then i would see if i had enough to buy a F-35 Joint strike fighter. even though i can't fly it it will give me great pleasure in knowing i own a state-of-the-art aircraft.

Rotorwing craft will never have the raw speed and carrying capacity of a fixed wing aircraft of comparable size. Besides that, if you didn't know, they are prone to a hell of a lot more mechanical problems--there's more moving parts. On top of that, they're usually designed and built by the same autistic, electro-shocked monkies you mentioned before.
Besides, most of the people on this board can't figure out inertial flight dynamics in a game. A helicopter would... kill... the lot of... them...

aren't airplanes easier to fly? On not an expert on this or anything, but I've heard helicopters aren't naturally stable or something and you have to be constantly adjusting them so they won't screw up

Actually, planes and choppers are as difficult to fly. Trust me. Even Flight Simulator gets the flying a plane wrong. Or not wrong, but it leaves out a lot.
They are different to fly, but as difficult to learn.
