Title: Purely hypothetical Starwars question
Post by: Martinus on May 26, 2003, 06:41:44 pm
[color=66ff00]Some of you may or may not know that Steven Spielberg asked George Lucas if he might direct a Starwars movie. Lucas turned him down, personally I think that Mr. Spielberg could do an excellent job as he puts characters before effects and he can tell an interesting story from an interesting perspective.

My question is this:
If you could choose any director to make episode 3 who would it be and why?

[color=66ff00]Interesting choice but why? What would Sam Raimi do that would make the film better than any other director?

That's beyond me, but it'd be good whatever it was. In Raimi we trust.

However, I suspect it would involve industrial quantities of fake blood.

[color=66ff00]Considering all wounds in SW are instantly cauterised I don't think it would work. ;)

if (($director = *) && ($director != $george_lucas)) {
   $fans = $satisfied;
} else {
    $fans = disown($george_lucas, $episodes_1_2_3);
}

Sounds about right.
And forget ye not that if he doesn't make Ep 7, 8 and 9, there will be a lot of angry nerds after his blood!

Face facts. There will be no episodes 7, 8 and 9. This has been said repeatedly, and the time to make them has long sice past (The actors are all, what 15 years older than in ROTJ?).

Yeah. The trademark twist at the end of the movie could be that Anakin is Darth Vader! :D

[color=66ff00]That man's a bloody genius... But a film? :confused:

Getting lots of answers here ppl but not a lot of reasoning. I think spielberg would do the best job as he portrays characters well and has a good eye for both close focused filming and wider picturesque shots that actually have relevance other than just being pretty.

Methinks you're all getting lazy? ;)

So why does everyone tell me the last bit of AI (the part Spielberg directed) was rubbish compared to Kubrick's work?

I've learnt the hard way that sticking a fork in the plug socket isn't a good idea.

I've stopped imagining what Star Wars directed by someone other than GL would be like for much the same reason. :D

Yes I know. That's why imagining him getting someone else to do episodes 1 to 3 is so painful. We already know that someone else can do a brilliant job with the Star Wars movies yet Lucas has decided to do a half-assed job on them himself :(
