I think it was here a few weeks ago that there was a thread in whcih someone was asking about using voice to communicate over the 'net. I'm damned if I can find it, but did anyone suggest Roger Wilco?
Come to that, does anyone have it? I'm anxious to test it out.
-
What?
-
i got RW, and imade the thread.
anyway, i use it, but i can't host a channel due to me being behind a gateway.
give me the IP and name of your channel and i'll call in.
-
What do you mean, "what"?
Roger Wilco is a voice comm. program.

Just a minute, then.

Anyway, my IP has a habit of changing, it would appear. It was different at the start of the week.

Hmm, I suppose you can. Doesn't mean I trust you any more than I should, though.:D

So here's a question for you intarweb experts: it appears that myself and my housemates have been banned from a certain website after we... annoyed... the clan which owns it. However, our dynamic IP seems to be banned even after multiple router reboots. Whassup wid dat?
-
uhm, they might have found some way to ban your mac adress.
and not all "dynamic " ip's are dynamic, mine should be, but isn't.

My what?
-
They probably banned your whole....err.......I forget what it's called. A 'node' or some ****. Basically, they don't just ban your IP, they ban everyone within 50 miles of you.
Or they might just be using cookies to keep you out.

That's a bit like overkill, isn't it?

mac adress, the hardware adress of your router/modem/network card.
edit:
try this:
http://nonymouse.com/anonwww.html
it will pass an IP block, and possibly even a mac block. but clear your cookies first, just to be sure you're not making things to hard on yourself.

wrong, they ban everyone on the same ISP as you, if you're neighbours use dial-up and you're on cable, they're fine. but if a guy on the other side of the country is using you ISP, he might be banned as well.

[EDIT] Ah-ha! That got it. Now to... behave responsibly on their forums... yes, that'll do. Cheers kasperl mate :)

No. They ban everyone up an IP block or two. So instead of banning 255.255.255.255 (or is it 256? I forget, anyway:) and stopping one person, they ban 255.***.***.*** and ban every mofo. It just depends who owns what block. But mostly, computers in the same area run through the same back-bone lines and have similar IP's, therefore everyone in yer area gets ****ed.
The only reason changing ISP's sometimes works is because you can get put through to a different backbone connection and thus have a vastly different IP.
-
it's 255, anyway, my dialup results in an ip starting with 212, while my cable starts with 84 or something.

Er, this whole affair has just been classified comparmentalised. It seems we... affected... their website host in ways we did not expect. And after what happened to Vadar, I'm officially distancing myself from the 'H' word. I'm a good forumite. Please don't ban me. I swear I'll never do it to anyone ever again.

Whats the point for getting his IP adress? If he has ADSL, his IP adress changes everytime he connects to the net.
-
Not every time, it hasn't changed for a few days now.
-
Neither has ours, and we're a little concerned after... the incident... hopefully their talk of getting back at us is just hot air :nervous:

uhm, ouch.
do get a really, really, good firewall.
and keep using an proxy, just to be shure, and don't say it's you again.
-
I fubared my firewall a week ago:D Some how the uploading of the new firmware went wrong, self testing on start up go's fine everything go's fine except the transmit lights never go on again:D I hated that thing anyway. I'm going to buy a Draytek Vigor 2200E router. Much better then what i had and then my mom would finaly shut-up about fixing the damn firewall. Actualy i'm glad it ****ed up.

OK, given that I have no moeny what do you lot think about, say, Zone Alarm? What are my options for free firewallage?
-
i use zone-alarm, i geuss it would be good enough.
or just apolagize, and beg for forgivenis.
-
What did you do? Set a script on your computer to constantly download files off of their server, totally draining their bandwidth and causing them to pay mucho-$? :p
About the real topic, voice chatting, TeamSpeak is far better than Roger Wilco, imo... try that out.
-
teamspeak has more functions, but slightly lesser audio quality.
also, i still haven't figured out how to run a server using ts, it does detect my ICS, and sees both my gloabl and lan IP's, but my friend can't connect.
-
I did use Netmeeting a few times for voice over chat but never tried RW got it installed though. And netmeeting sucks for VOC

Well, you have to be in the DMZ if you have a router(as with everything you host, you have to be--I think), and the fact that you are running ZoneAlarm could be a problem, you could try to disable that and see if it'll work.
For me, hosting a teamspeak server is no problem, works fine for me...
You have to be using the TeamSpeak 2 Server download to host a server though, but thats pretty much common sense.
-
i tried about anything, and it didn't even work when i was on a dial-up direct internet coonnection without zonealarm.
-
So who wants to test me cam/mic with netmeeting?:D
-

Well, in the admin control panel, you'll have to turn the server type to Public, its default set at Clan...
