Title: Website questions
Post by: diamondgeezer on June 02, 2003, 01:22:19 pm
Two Q's:

1. What's the HTML needed to send something to the bottom of your page?

2. What do I need in terms of legal stuff, like 'FS belongs to Volition' and stuff like that?

could you rephrase that?

if you mean maing a footer, just put it as text after all the toerh stuff, and put some < br > between it to make some space.

1. i think you must only add at the link the #bottom tag
e.g. /index.html#bottom

And you must make a bookmark at the bottom of the page

Anyway, how can you help me with the HTML? I didn't understand a word of what Terran said :)

well, no offence, but IMHO, even word is better then frontpage, really.

and just put things wherr they are supposed to be by hand, easiest way, not the cleanest, but the fastest

off course it is, however i prefer a real text editor for the text, and for HTMl i prefer a color-coding piece of software.

also, if you wnat WYSIWYG, word is better.

Thanks for the offer, FT, but so far I've managed alright - except for the questions I posed in this thread. Which, in seven posts, no one has answered. Thanks for that, guys.

Yup, and it just sits there directly under my last line of text. Without any breaks. I want it to appear at the bottom of the page regardless of what ever other rubbish is in there

[div style="position: absolute; bottom: 5px;"]stuff[/div]

not sure if that'll work right... will test

EDIT: yeah this should work, set "bottom: 5px;" to some amount. it's the number of units away from the bottom the stuff is.

EDIT2: make sure to change [] into <>s too :p

or with Frontpage you could just place a bookmark in the spot you want to be sent to, then make a link and instead of using a url, select from the bookmark list.

Frontpage 0wnz j00.

I think he meant how to put text at the bottom of the page, rather than how to make links to get to the bottom.

Hokay, that... sort of got it. Cheers Kamikaze :)

Now, anybody know about the legal stuff?

If everyone had to do it that way it'd take forever to do anything, stop being so damn elitist.

frontpage makes a mess of all HTML, increasing file sizes to the rididulous. and indeed, i would prefer using some kind of command line (or just good keyboard control) for some functions.

How very odd. I looked at HLP (before looking at F2S, FSWatch and all the rest) but I never saw that disclaimer. I can't have been looking hard enough - but then men are gentically prone to be rubbish at looking for things :)

And seriously kasperl mate, give it a rest. I already said in plain language that I don't know any raw HTML, and the only way I was going to make a website was with a GUI editor (for example the one that came with my Office disc, FrontPage). Perhaps it does balls up stuff, but at least I've got where I've got in three evenings - doing things your way I'd still be sat here looking at a blank Notepad page

actually I still use the command line to do those ;) (on the linux box...actually windows 2k has an ftp function in its command line too) imo, doesn't really take time...

Frontpage may be ****e but it does the job. As DG said some of us don't know HTML much and while it is fairly simple to learn it does take time.
Since this is probably DG's first website (or one of his first) I have no problem with him using Frontpage.

Now if it was 2 years down the line and he's offering to make other people pages and still using Frontpage it would be a completely different matter :D

But we'll let him get away with it this time... :P

And oh god, the comment about vertices? I remember doing that... ugh... :ick

You lot suck. It's just like the time I made a ship in Blender and got it textured and flying in game. I felt dead proud of my little achievment, my first ever model.  I posted a pic and do you know the only respone I got? 'You should learn Lightwave'.

ok,i feel like i owe you an apolagy, i should've put some sarcastic smiley there or something. the only thing i ment, is that using frontpage produces pretty, but not so small websites. i didn'twan't to bash you personally, nor do i mean to say you're first website sucks. for a first site, it's good. i was just in a slightly humorous mood, and i had to trawl through some frontpage code a week back. that's all.

i am sorry if i insulted you in any way.

this is one of my rare apolagy's, it won't happen again soon.

The fact that DG is trying and asking questions instead of "Hey can someone make me a site" is pretty damn good in itself i think.

I wasn't having a go at you DG. Considering it's your first website it works pretty well. You have every right to be perfectly happy with what you've managed to achieve.

Yep. I agree with that. Actually I'm more impressed with how far he's come so far when it comes to modding.
