Hey. I was standing in the shower *shudder* and wouldnt you know it, my mind was working away at the "Is FS2 Dead' thread.
I got to thinking, WAY back when i started TPS, the whole thing came out of this killer story myself and a couple others put down on paper. However, the story called for things that just could not be realized with the current FS code... now that the source has been released, maybe, but thats water under the bridge at this point.
This may have been suggested before, and if so, I'll zap this thread to the nether-cyber-purgatory-abyss. But I was wondering, for those of you who maybe don't have the time to complete actual modding/model/mission design anymore, or maybe don't want to, perhaps you could release a summary of what your story was going to be. I'm talking more than whats listed under the "story" section of your website, but by no means TAS proportions... I hope there isnt' a campaign named TAS, maybe I've been gone too long... TAS was the never-ending Tell A Story thread... nevermind, getting sidetracked... :P
My point is, most of us have developed really cool stories for our campaigns, and for those who ARE still into modding, perhaps they could use ideas from us that they might not have thought of. And for those who aren't modding, they might provide for a good read on a rainy saturday afternoon. I don't know, I would just hate to see all these highly anticipated campaigns lost in the minds of their creators forever, and would love to know how the story WOULD have turned out, had we actually played it through.
I'll try to get the 64 page TPS story document into a more... concise form... :)
Am I way out in left-field?

Nope, its actually a VERY good idea. If anyone knows what Deep Angel was (they still exist, but its taken a change for the worse, they've scrapped the old storyline), its basically just very cool story, which was made into a complete universe, backed up by a kickass website and some cool renders. I think this is feasible, as I myself have alot of cool story ideas floating around my head. However, we would need a good website and some dedicated artists to further the reality of it all.
Off topic:
For the uneducated, Deep Angel ( www.deepangel.com ), before they changed their storyline, told the stroy of the UN Navy Armada in the year 2041. Almost all of Asia had united into the Kalithan Empire, with the UN being the other superpower to keep them in check. Seeing itself in peril and in decline, the UN built 2 huge supercavitating underwater ships, the Angelus and the Rubicon (5 were planned but 3 were never completed). BTW supercaviation is a way to essentially "fly" underwater by going so fast as to produce a bubble of air around you and then you can go as rfast underwater as you can through air. Anyways, the Kalithans unexpectedly attack Pearl Harbour and destroy most of the UN fleet ( in DeepAngel its all about underwater power, so the strenght of a nation is measured in their navy ). The Angelus under the command of Captain Julius Verne and the Rubicon escape, and figt the Kalithans throughout the world's oceans. Really cool stuff. They released the stories in the form of scripts, but its pretty easy to get into. They had about 10 or so scripts before they changed the storyline and started over, and AFAIK the new story hasnt progressed very far (I think they just did the pilot and that was about 6 or so months ago, maybe more)
Anyways, since I think I found DeepAngel thorugh the HLPBB, if anyone has the old scripts PLEASE contact me, I really want to get my hands on them again. email is:

Er... maybe I'll have a full version up this weekend.
In short, TAC-2 is a sampler of a whole series of False Dawn Rising **** I knocked up in my spare time or plan to knock up in the future. More of a showcase of ships and effects than anything, and the plot reflects the fact that I really didn't care about a plot so much as the backstory and universe.
Sometime about four centuries from now, you get the standard all-powerful-empire/rebellious-outer-worlds setup, with the empire being the Earth Imperium, naturally with its capitol on Earth. The Earth gets accidentially blown up in a rebel attack (long story), closely followed (less accidentially) by two insurgent planets- which happen to be two of the four really settled planets in the Galaxy not including Earth. So, in a matter of a few hours, about 2/3 of humanity is a lot of superheated hydrogen vapor, there's practically no infrastructure, damn few resources, and you've got hundreds of little factions that are the remnants of the two "sides" blowing hell out of each other and any collateral they can find to damage.
Hundred years later, a bit of an equilibrium has been established, with another set of warring factions, the planets have been partly rebuilt, and people are getting by if not thriving. All the front lines are so heavily entrenched that there's no way they could pose a real threat to each other, which is well and good because a few still have planetbusters left over from that first war. Then, the side that ended up getting most of the EI's technology designs an antiship weapon that could cut a big swath out of enemy lines, obviously with the intent to make room to cut a path in and take out a few annoying planets.
Naturally, everyone wants a piece, and in fact someone manages to hijack it (rather easy once you've got the controls, it just blows up the battlefleet guarding it and runs), and Alpha 1's job is to recover it/steal it from them, depending.
I actually semi-dropped TAC-2 a while ago for a more interesting plot, since it was getting nowhere (I really loathe Truespace and couldn't bear to be around it long enough to flip polys, texture, and set up a heirarchy- which means I never got to learn how to POF-edit, either) but since that one involves rather less flying around in a spaceship blowing up stuff, it stands as my on-hold Freespace campaign until I get a staffer or decide to completely lose it.

Well I have/had a bunch of ideas for campaigns (not necessarily just story, but the general background/settings/atmosphere) that I never got around to starting, so I'll post some of those.
I always tend towards real scenarios which occur/have occured in military situations. A large part is psychological warfare, political assaults and the like.
For example, you can argue the Iraqi war was designed to keep other nations in fear, that the US can and will attack those it does not like for whatever reasons. Additionally using a blame/accusation method the U.S. made its citizens get into its war rage thing to highten support (accusation being WMD and Al Quaeda stuff). I try to weave this sort of stuff into my storylines.
Additionally I've noticed that FS2 has a severe lack of realism in terms of civilian traffic. (probably due to mission design and engine limitations, it may also be because FS2 is set in very irregular war situations) So do most other games. Anyway, I try to integrate some sort of media into many of my stories, it makes sense that major military encounters would be heavily covered by media.
I'll add some more ideas I've had later....

Oh, Sorry Stel_ath, I just happen to read the main page (not to mention TPS. And then again, some of us were major lurkers before they signed up :nervous: ) and when I get reeaaaallllyyy bored, I go through supposedly dead admins and read their posts. I think it's has to do a Setekh Withdrawl Sydrome.
What I really need is a strong father figure in my life. Alas :sigh:

hahahaha. that's a good one, i'll have to remember that. knowing you, you've got no life, you couldn't "lurk" for more than 2 minutes without having the urge to sign up and spam

and Setekh was leaving/about to leave when you entered, so... no.

it's fun arguing with 14 year olds, especially ones with no life :D
Black Wolf: Great to meet you! I like the idea, i say go for it! I actually remember "Tell a Story"... how many pages was that thread again? wasn't it close to the hundreds? Whatever happened to Plasma anyway, occasionally he'll make a post at the VWBB, but when he does people (*cough* *Knight_Templar* *cough*) think he's Orange :D

Isn't that big WTF smiley around here somewhere...
And would the both of you just shut-up before this thread gets closed.
I don't care if I'm really 14, not many people care about age here. Nobody even knew I was 14 until I posted my birthday...

That's nice. You know what else is nice? The Ice Cream man has a sale on choco taco's today. 2 for 2 bucks. Hardly seems like a sale but.. ya know.. choco tacos...

Well stealth, I remember you... for more reasons than one... I'll say no more..
And since this thread is already going downhill, I might as well say thanks for all the 'Welcome backs'
Now back on topic before I close my own thread! ;)

ONe way of doing it would be to have several story arcs being worked on by different people, so everyone has their way
But I think what would ultimately be better, is if we created a common storyline and characters, set the format of the writing, then we have all the writers doing different episodes but in the same style with the same storyline etc, but of course they add whatever events and coolness they have in their minds
that way, you could get much faster release schedule I know in Deep Angel, you had to wait a good month or two between episodes, but if we have several people writing then that could be shortened down. This would especially be cool if we coul get some renderers onboard, to doa few pics per episode, to add life to the story. After having seen Deep Angel succeed, I realy like this idea and think it can work..
damn it, we dont have an enthusiasm smily

Hi! Great to see you here too Stealth! Glad you could make it.
TAS died somewhere around the 70 page mark, primarily because UBB5 (which the VBB was built on) decided it didn't like to display page numbers above 64, though as far as most people are concerned it died after about page 12 or so when it got taken over by bunch of newbs who thought they were funnier than they really were...
And I thought you and KT had decided not to be *****es to each other for awhile now?

Well stealth, I remember you... for more reasons than one... I'll say no more..
really? more than one reason?
Was it the free hosting i've been giving out to people?
Perhaps the www.hardlightproductions.com domain i bought for the community?
No? Perhaps my involvement in the FSSCP tester list and website?
Still not? Perhaps all the hosted campaigns i'm involved in?
I'm trying to think... before today, i don't think i ever saw one post of yours, and i'm pretty regular here... i'm trying to think, you might know me from the VBB, but i doubt it, because i don't remember you.
so i'm thinking, if i never saw your posts, how did you see mine? OK, you were lurking... then perhaps you saw my argument with Shrike about him accusing me of warez? Then there was the incident where i was banned for a week for helping someone find the (illegal) version of a program. other than that i can't think.
enlighten me.

rah, stop that, Stealth, even I remeber Black Ace very well.
sometimes it's just a great thing to realize that you CAN go over some completly uninteresting "problem" and forget about it...

Maelstrom: Fight For The Future (Working on it but progress is slow)
50 years have passed since Capella. For 25 of those years contact has been reestablished with Sol. Sol has been incorporated into the GTVA, and colonisation and expansion into newly discovered systems have progressed well. However, five years ago, after a Vasudan scientist named Deshreb manage to "repair" the Vasuda Prime eco-system, stirrings in the Vasudan ranks began to appear. Quickly a young idealistic generation took up a separatist stance, calling themselves the Vasudan Republican Coalitin, they rejected the Vasudan Emperor and the GTVA. Two major battle groups rallied to thier cause. Unwilling to risk another civil war (like the NTF), the GTVA surrendered Vasuda Prime to the rebels.
However, with Sol and Vasuda now having direct subspace links to a new colony system, tensions are rising. The VRC conduct regular attacks on GTVA bases, and it is only a matter of time before the situation escalates.
(to get the feel, listening to briefing track 4 when reading this)
Excerpt from Command Briefing, Admiral Wolf - CO GTD Ark Royal (Raynor Class Destroyer, flagship 1st fleet)
...The Vasudan Republican Coalition has struck another three of our outlying colonies this morning with greater impact than before. Two colonies require massive reconstruction assistance and one was so severely damaged it is being abandoned and requires complete evacuation.
For our new arrivals I should inform you that although the VRC is still not considered officially at war with the GTVA, we are in effect engaged in daily skirmishes with thier forces.
The colony to be evacuated is in the Plara system, which is one jump from Sol. Unfortunately it is also one jump away from Vasuda Prime. After the rejuvination of Vasuda Prime by Dr. Deshreb, the VRC took control of it as thier capital. This is where the heaviest concentration of thier warships are and despite thier age, they are a significant threat to unprotected civilian transports. The Horatio, a Chimera class corvette, the GTCv Freedom and the GTxC Armand, a Torpedo Cruiser, are being sent to defend Plara from any opportunistic attack by the VRC.
If anyone likes this so far, I'll post some more later.

I have that piece on the PI website which gives an overview of the story:
http://www.3dap.com/hlp/hosted/procyon/story.htm
Actually I should probably update this thing, as it was written over two years ago and my english has significantly improved since then. :p However, at the moment I have every intention of releasing this campaign despite the extremely outdated website. :p :D
