Post by: Krackers87 on June 04, 2003, 03:03:53 pm
Hi ive been learning alot lately about Moding in FS2 so i decided to test my mettle on making a Somtaw harvester for you guys. Also the Turanic Raider Ion Frigate is missing the valubale tables in which are needed for it to be used.

better let me know soon.

besides mine just might look better ;)  anyways im working on a harvester / worker pair

and if its done why isnt it on the site?

Also to be helpfully criticizing the ion frigate for the imps has not so good texturing. It looks rather bland and just gray on some places.

If u already have it i might still crreate one anyways cuz i need the practice and it wouldnt hurt.

Because of the way 3d exploration converts the .lif files, its gonna be grey unless we do something about it, and editing all those textures is a bloody pain in the arse... too many of em
the .lif files have three layers... the base texture ( the only part you see when its converted), the main colour layer and the stripe layer.... the extra layers get left out when theyre converted...

+if we released everything as soon as we had it, what would be the point in d/l the finished mod?

so the models etc that u d/l r meant only to be a glimpse at what the final product will contain, and do give u guys something to playaround with.

as for the models, ask elloran, after all he is the "boss" :p

So I see you won't mess with the texture colors of the homeworld ships.

Being a member of more than one Homeworld/HW:Cataclysm mod team, I know quite a bit about how the games texture system works.

If you'd like, it would be easy/not very time consuming for me to edit the textures to add the appropriate colors for you. (i.e give the Taiidan their trademark yellow/red colors (and a black version if you want it))

Just find my e-mail or ICQ in my profile and contact me via that if you want my help on that. ;)

I'd very much like to see this mod be all it can be. :D

Once the texture files have been done into just a few master files they'll be easier to edit, but for the moment our concern is converting the ships themselves and getting them to work.  That and working on the demo :)

Well, you see, It'll be much easier for me working on the original textures with their layers intact. That way, I can see exactly where the color should be applied. I'll simply edit the layers to include the desired color, and then collapse the texture to a single layer file with the new color. It shouldn't be too much extra work on your end doing that.

Agreed.  We wish to stay on the original color schemes:

1. Taiidan - Yellow Hull/Brown Stripes
2. Turanic - Brown (Many Turanic textures do not have color schemes.)
3. Kadeshi - White (Many Kadeshi textures do not have color schemes.)
4. Kushan #1 (Ki'ith Man'aan) - Green Background/White Stripes
5. Kushan #2 (Standard Homeworld) - Gray Background/White Stripes
6. Somtaaw - Blue Background/White Stripes
7. Beast - Dark Gray Background/Red Stripes

what tools do you use to convert the models into fs2 format? I've been completely remodeling them with blender but maybe there is a program to uncompress the HW files?

well im not a model converter so i wouldnt be able to give an acurate guess ;)

i think they use things along the line of truespace and probably some 3rd party converter of some sort? not sure....

Yep, there's a program for that. It's called WinBIG. It'll extract the content of the packed format HW uses. And from there, you'll need 3d Explorer to convert the models from HW's .peo format.

This page should contain everything you'd need: http://www.b5mods.com/site/downloads_tools.htm (well, except for 3D Explorer, that is... You'll have to search the web for it or something, I don't have a link on hand)

And about those textures, just contact me on ICQ and I'll get right on it.

righthemisphere.com or something like that...

You could go there, but the version they have up expires after a period if you don't pay. If you search, you can find version 1.5 of 3dex, which doesn't expire.

sweet :D

but is it a legal site? or is it covered in porn links or something? :doubt:

where do you think i can find a full copry of Deep Exploration  and the other deep tools?
Title: Hello
Post by: TonViper on June 12, 2003, 03:56:23 pm
Well, that Right Hemisphere site is where you would find them, but you'd have to pay for them, of course. Anything else wouldn't be proper to mention here.

The 1.5 version of 3dex that doesn't expire, isn't illegal to use or post for download, though the company of course would rather see you getting the newer paying version. ;)

I still haven't got the link to it, but it is definately out there to be found, since it is one of the primary tools of the HW modder...

Minor correction to the Taiidan colors...

it's Yellow hull/Red stripe.

I knew that. ;)

@Krackers87: I stumbled upon a link to where you can get 3DEx v1.5: http://www.battletechmodproductions.com/btsw/dloads.htm

It's the download page from a Homeworld mod.

As for the textures, I'd still be happy to do them for you any time, just contact me on ICQ. The number should be in my profile.
